My mind hates running

I wouldn’t say I have completely week 7, had to have a little rest (walking) in between run. That was all runs in week seven. Feel like quitting, how do ppl enjoy it. I loved the first few weeks running. Shall I start back and week 6. I completely the 20 min run no problem. I hate 25 mins.

Do you run alone or with music? I would do Week seven again and go slower. You can do this. Did you complete the 25 min run on week 6? If you did then you can do it. The extra stamina gained from doing this week again will set you in good stead for Weeks 8 and 9.

You say you hate the idea of 25min run and you ask how people can enjoy it. My wife had similar feelings and she simply quit running after 2-3 weeks of painfully unenjoyable attempts. You either like/love/want to do this or you simply don’t. I would never force myself to swim 400m butterfly or cycle around the park like a hamster. The point is, only ever do what you genuinely enjoy doing.

Have to agree. Different sports for different folks after all.

Like I cannot understand Basketball for instance - but some of my buddies are really into it. I tried it, had a lot of encouragement and wanted to join in for the fun of it - but for me it was absolutely not fun. I quit after a couple of months without regrets.

(And don't even get me started on the Underwater Karate winter....😝)

Ah, basketball... Quick thinking, precision demanding five-a-side, guaranteed to bust/crush/destroy every joint and every tendon in your body unless you’re a built like a 6’11 heavyweight boxer and even then, by the end of your career, you will struggle to walk. Images of Larry Bird at the end of his game spoke volumes. What’s not to like, eh? 😉

You do make it sound rather attractive Mr. R. 😂🤣

Mind you, I used to practice three pointers by shooting a hundred from behind 7metre mark and although l wouldn’t hit more than 20 at best, that was a hell of a cardio exercise. Until knees disagreed, lol....

I tried Basketball - and, like Baseball - far to many rules against physical contact.

If you're going to bang a ball around in a group situation, you should prepare for a few hard knocks imho.

Only ever went to one American Football game - makes the Treadmill look like Australian Rules. Four bloody hours for one hour of actual play??? Almost drowned myself in my Soda cup out of sheer boredom 🤪

Thank god it’s not only me. Yes, those guys look fit but all that start-stop business lost me fairly quickly. Give us running any day! 😀

Why do you hate running? If you enjoyed the 20mins is it because you're focusing on time? Try music, a podcast, audiobook to help take your mind off it. If you really can't take more than 20mins no matter what it doesn't matter, a friend of mine runs 20mins twice a week just to keep fit, she hates any longer. Some sports just t aren't our thing, my lot do martial arts, karate & taekwondo, I tried it for months but hated it. Try something to take your mind off the time first and see if you can get to the end, you're so close now.

HI Kattou.

Some good comments here.

I sense that you are struggling with the extra distance/time.

Not a problem.

Go back to week six and do the runs again to get your confidence back, and then as someone else suggested do week 7 at a slightly slower pace.

In terms of mind occupation therapy, I listen to my music that encourages me to run, and often I find my mind will start to think about issues in life, be it a work problem or dinner or whatever. Thinking along other lines can help pass the time away.

The only downside to that, at least for me is that I don't concentrate as much on my breathing, my pace etc and so may have a slightly slower run. But a run is a run and a run.

You are at week seven..You can do this, please let us know how you did in two to three weeks :)

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes advice on the recommended easy conversational pace............. I would lay money on the fact that you are going too fast.

The longer continuous runs take mental adjustment and distraction from thinking about time and running.

Music, podcasts or giving a running commentary on everything that you can see hear and feel as you run.

You can do this.

You and me both. Run 25mins twice, but gave up at 20mins twice. Called week 7 my nemesis. Going to do wk7r2 round2 tomorrow morning.
