W8R1 Ouch that hurt

Well there I was getting really cocky about this running challenge..... having completed W7 with 4 x 25 minute runs and extending them by a couple of mins, it went a bit skewy yesterday. Had to stop and walk for 30 seconds for the first time ever so beating myself up. Ankle now sore too so think will be resting for a few days😟. So what went wrong I ask myself and I decided it was the lovely lake I ran round at the wrong time of the day. I skived off work early thinking a late afternoon run would be lovely with the weather so fab. Ah ha so did everybody else! So dodging the kids, dogs, geese, geese poo (sooooo much) meant I didn’t get a good rhythm and for some reason all the park benches looked so inviting😱. It also undulates a bit and like others and the slopes felt like hills.... Decided I’m going to stick to early or late runs and on the roads of suburbia for a bit longer👍🤞and save the lake for taking the grandkids too😀

Now that’s interesting as I was wondering whether to try a different route now I’ve reached the giddy heights of week 8 - thinking I might stick to old faithful until I graduate....

Getting the right route is tricky. I think I’m learning that I prefer not to run laps but pick a circular route (might mean a bit more warm down walking). Think I’m missing the halfway bell somehow too! I do find hills (slopes😂) an energy zapper too so try to avoid in the middle of run when I’m needing to stay motivated. Will be nice when can run further as gives you confidence. Was thinking I might do a park run next week but perhaps now will wait a bit

I did a park run 2 weeks ago when I was still on week 5

It was really tough but gave me a sense of something to aspire to

Of course I walked a lot of it but that didn’t matter

Again it gave me a sense of learning how to pace and break runs up

These are the skills we are learning alongside the stamina and confidence

Hi Aspire24, sorry about your ankle. It sounds good to keep an eye on it for a couple of days.

I remember I also struggled at a similar stage of C25K going on a run on a different route that my usual one at that time. Dodging people👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, dogs 🐶 and waiting for 🚦 definitely messed up with my pace and I was exhausted after it. 🥴

Early afternoon runs are indeed very tempting especially in this weather, but they can be tricky because everyone else is tempted too!!!

The good thing is that days are finally getting longer so we may get some sunny early Morning runs soon! ☀️
