Legs really aching!!

Need some advice. I completed W6R3 this morning and managed to run for the full 25 mins. I found it really hard today. Anyway, back home, showered and sitting at my desk working and I can feel my legs still aching in a kinda throbbing sort of a way and I’m sitting still!! I did do my stretches when I got home. What’s going on??

Having easily absorbed protein within the thirty minute window after you stop running may help with this for future runs. I’m female and 160lbs and I drink 35g pea protein powder mixed with a cup of oat milk after my runs.

For now you will need to ice the muscles when you can to decrease inflammation. If you’re at work you could go and buy an ibuprofen gel and rub on your sore muscles as temporary relief.

That’s really helpful, thanks Pegasus. It’s so weird, they’ve been achy, but never felt like this before. I’ll try the ibuprofen 🤞

Have you been keeping well hydrated 7 days a week and not just on your running days this will help 😊

I do try, Buddy. And today wasn’t really any different to other days, which is why I can’t figure out why my legs feel sad 😞

Well done for doing the 25 minutes! I hope your legs feel better soon.

You have got ahead of me now as I found my hips were aching after the 20 minute run so I decided to leave 2 days between runs, so I'm heading out this afternoon to do R2 of W6.....its pouring down here and really windy so going to be a bit of a challenge!

Ooh, good luck with that. I think Wk 6 is a bit of a challenge- well, it was for me. 🤔

How have you got on with Week 7 Islerunner?

Aw, thank you for asking. I have to do W7R3 tomorrow. I must confess that I’m not enjoying the longer runs much. I’m getting through them but I keep reading how other people are enjoying it all now the runs are longer and I’m just not feeling it. Not really sure why. My legs have calmed down now.

How are you getting on??

That's a shame, I find the first 5 - 10 mins the hardest then seem to get into it after then, but I'm pretty slow! Good luck with your run today, I'm due to do that one tomorrow...trying to leave 2 days rest in between each one. The better weather is certainly helping though! :)

Well I did my last W7 run. Still finding it really hard. Not convinced I’m gonna manage 28 mins next week 🤔.

Good luck with your run tomorrow. Weather seems to be taking a turn for the worse 🥴

Well done for doing it :)

Do you listen to music when you run? I find it really helps.

This has happened to me too after my first W7 run. My legs haven’t ached like that since W1!! I haven’t got a foam roller so I got my rolling pin out and used that on my muscles to try and get the blood flowing! I think hydration is a big thing with me and also maybe it’s just that we’re running for longer now?

Thanks for that, Glitterjav. Its certainly comforting to know it’s not just me. I might give the rolling pin trick a go. It’s just such an odd feeling and I haven’t had it before. Will make sure I drink loads before W7 too.

Think just take some pain killers and see how it goes! X

You said you found it hard......were you running faster than usual or on a different surface of gradients?

What was your state of restedness, hydration and nutrition?

Many things can affect your performance and if you can identify them then you can avoid repeating them.

I wasn’t aware that I was running faster and it wasn’t usual route. Maybe it was just a bad day. 🤔 Legs are feeling fine today. I’ll drink loads today and try W7 tomorrow.
