Hi everyone! I'm new to this community. I'm 54, I'm 3 stone overweight and very unfit. I recently tried day 1 of the couch to 5k when I was on holiday. I only managed 3 mins of running ... Has this happened to anyone else and did you still manage to complete the 9 weeks??

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and explains the recommended pace.

I would lay money on you using too hard......... everyone does

If you cannot speak clear ungasping sentences as you run, you are going too fast.

There is also a link in the guide to the Active 10 walking forum, which might be a necessary first step, if you are very unfit.

Enjoy your journey

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I was running very slowly ... I'm just extremely unfit. I've read your guidance notes as well and taken your advice on board 😀

Hi, firstly getting out there is a big step in the right direction, the first run is hard but, once you are out there it does get easier, take it slow on the running part, even slower than yhat, advise is allways good and inspiring on here.

Welcome. You will do it. For sure. Not everyone does it in 9 weeks, so don’t worry - very counter-productive thing, worry - and just get started. A great first step is to read the Guide in the post by IannodaTruffe. It’s full of useful info & links to other articles too. Enjoy each day! 👏🏼

Welcome ! This is about you and you’re unique, so you’ll do it your own way and at your own pace. I’m very overweight myself - actually carrying a whole extra person in fat (I call it Ethel) and when I started I could barely jog 20 seconds. I started by doing two different walking paces ! Then I managed to jog 10 seconds of each run, then 20, and then added on extra seconds each time till I conquered week 1. That took nine weeks, so most of the folk who started with me were graduating as I moved on to week 2 ! Don’t be discouraged if others go racing past. Trees grow slowly but they last longer than most other plants ! Relax, take it slow and steady, and enjoy your journey x

Awww thank you. Well done you! I'll just have to go at my own pace as well i think. As long as I improve x

Yes read all the advice 1st! And take it slow to start with, you’re not trying to beat Mo Farrah’s record, it’s about building stamina not speed at this stage. Most of all stick at it! And if you don’t complete a run just repeat it. Get there at your own speed. And if you want to lose weight join Slimming World. I lost 2st before tackling this programme. You may not have to do that, but it’s worth considering. Don’t run before you can walk springs to mind here! But good luck however you decide to tackle it.

Thanks! Yes I'll just have to go at my pace. I am trying to lose the weight as well.
