Cough Linctus to boost my running 🤣

I'd signed up for a 5k charity run (more of a guilt trip thing really, as it was for charity. Motor Neurone Disease had taken the lives of two people I knew). So, come hell or high water I HAD to do this run.

Yesterday, started a head cold, and sneezed & barked all night. Then pulled the curtains back this morning to see a frosty field and a 3°C reading. Ah, what better preparation for a 5k...!

Signing on meant parking in the football car park and traipsing across the football field and climbing over a locked gate. Yes, all of us...somebody had forgotten the keys. In the hall, another participant mentioned that the road was slippery and asked if my trainers were grippy. Err...no...

As 350 runners lined up in the freezing cold, I'm barking like a seal and snot is running faster than I can contain it. My chest is wheezing like a set of bagpipes.

So I started slowly, and tried not to panic as everyone overtook me. Then 1.5k in, I started overtaking people. The water station offered the chance to stop and take on water & blow my nose for the 5,000th time.

At 3k, had to stop to tie my shoe. 4k had to stop and tie the other shoe, and blow my nose on shredded tissue. Started to feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe the cough linctus wasnt the best idea? (Even paracetamol makes me drowsy) I looked at my watch and was 26 minutes in!

Made it to 5k in what is my fastest time of 32 minutes. The icy blast of wind dried up the snot, and the medal is amazing.

Its interesting to see what my ancient, creaking body, and rasping respiratory system can pull out of the bag when I need it! So glad I went out this morning!

Congratulations on getting through what sounds like a difficult run weather wise and feeling ill. Must admit cough linctus sends me high and out of it 🤣 great for nighttime when I'm exhausted though.

I didn't k how it would do that! It was a seriously weird sensation. Maybe that's why the run felt good, I was clearly high as a kite! 🤣

Clearly, adversity is your thing! 👏🏼 Congratulations! Interested to see I am not single nosedly supporting the profit margins of the tissue industry. May I recommend the king size balsam version? 😂

You are right. The lady- like tissues were not up to the job; they shredded in minutes!

Nothing lady-like about Runner’s Nose, in my opinion! 😄
