Hi All, this week I've mixed up my running to try and improve my uphill speeds which I seemed to do really well with at the time. Then this morning off I went to do a favourite 5K run which I know well, the weather conditions were good only problem I encountered was a fly in my eye and cut grass made my nose stream, had to get a tissue out of bum bag and blow but still kept moving!!
Completed the run but was nearly 2 minutes slower than previous runs which have all been about 34.40 today 36.19!! What went wrong, I didn't think I was slower at the half way mark. The whole point of me doing the interval training this week was to try and speed up but its had the opposite effect. Any suggestions on how to increase speed guys & girls?

Just keep doing what you are doing. You can't judge one run in isolation some will be faster than others along the way. My last three 10ks were 49, 54 then 50. but I am trending towards a more consistent low 50.
You can only look over a period at the trend, that's when you know. Nothing is wrong, enjoy the run and the training and review every dozen runs or so.
Greg, how did you cross the bridge from 5k to 10. I am interested to know as I am in week 7 now, and am still toying with a couple of ideas on what to do after week 9.
I think Greg is spot on. You might feel a little disappointed with your time but there are so many factors that might have made a difference that it really isn't anything to worry about. In a couple of weeks time you'll probably be able to see it as part of your steady progress.
You can lend my rabid dog and allow it to chase you in order to increase speed, when I find a rabid dog that is! Also needs to be a relatively slow chasing dog or it will catch us, so,I'm looking for a 3 legged, half blind rabid chihuahua, let me know if you see one
