Hi all, I did wk4 run2 today and it was hard work! Run1 had been really good, but today I suffered! It got me thinking about my music, Monday was 1980’s pop, a mixture of fast and slow music, whereas today it was Faithless - fast dance music. I think today’s music made me run faster and that’s why I struggled so much. Monday i’ll Listen to something nice and slow.. maybe a bit of Barry White!?
What music do you listen to?: Hi all, I did wk... - Couch to 5K
What music do you listen to?
I have made a playlist of my favourite music on Spotify and I play it on random. I’ve way more on the playlist than my run time so I don’t hear the same on every run.
Barry White, we got it together, well done on running week 4 run 2. A idea for music to run to are a few of Jancanrun's playlists, go to Spotify and search "Jancanrun" she specialises on music 🎶 for running, it's a good mix of music to run to, some fast and not so fast 🎶 music.
I really like fast paced music I just learned with time to slow run at the same time . Couldn't listen to slow music I would be bored 😊
I love Faithless! I am 59 on WK8, session 2 in the morning, and currently have a Pete Tong mix and Judge Jules Ibiza Classics on my playlist. Keeps me dancing all the way - I wish. Keeps me shuffling along anyway. 💃
Couldn’t help relating my playlist to your name - one of my favourite running tracks is Spanish Hustle ; Fatback Band ....... which I will be shuffling to in about 30 mins on W6 R2! (In Spain by the way)
I remember it well 💃
Currently just outside Malaga 😎
Nice to know I’m not alone here - I’m just south of Valencia and enjoy running along the beach 🏖
I found this really good running song called Go featuring Karen O by Santigold. The pace is just right for me. I wish I could find more songs like it.
Have you tried Pandora - you plug things you like into it, and it spits similar songs and artists out
When I run to music it tends to be thrash and death metal... but I don’t try to match the tempo.
There’s a cool site jog.fm where you can select a genre and match the tempo to your running.
I think my problem is that whilst running I imagine I’m in the music video or on stage with the band!! 😂
I actually listen to audiobooks on my runs!
I have worked out my cadence and googled songs to the same bpm. I have a good old mixture of queen, abba, Jacko and I even have rolling stones. It's really good to have music the beat of your step
As a 62 year old fogey I listen to....trance, rock and dance! The faster the beat the better for me. Here's my playlist bit.ly/2G68CTi. It's called 25 minute run but it's got longer as my runs have! It motivates me to keep running. 😊
Just checked out your playlist and it looks great! I love The Killers!
I’m veering more towards silence/talking these days. There are some landscapes I want to feel part of, and music removes me... other times it is good to be removed, of course! I couldn’t listen to fast music in the earlier days, I just couldn’t stop myself running too fast. Kate Bush ‘The Whole Story’ got me through a few weeks before I found my rhythm 🙂
My tastes are at the indie/rockiest end of the spectrum. I find I need something to drive me along LED Zeppelin’s Kashmir is perfect. The heavy thumping drums give a perfect rythem for my feet. Gang of Four’s “To hell with poverty” works well. Has to be a heavy beat 😀
I talked myself through all my clinical examinations I have to do in the next few weeks for my exams. Run past in a blur 😂😂😂😂
I listen to a playlist on Spotify called 'motivation mix'. Just put that on shuffle and away I go
I have a playlist filled with running tracks like: Born to Run; Break my stride; It keeps you running; Keep on running; Band on the run; Nowhere to run; On the run; Run away; Run to me; Run to paradise; Running away; Running wild; All the road running etc etc. All from the Golden Age of Music. (Best to avoid Death on 2 legs!)
I am just about to finish W8R3. Once I got on to the longer runs I tried Kraftwerk ‘Autobahn’...it’s not fast paced but very metronomic and keeps you going quite steady...as the course suggests. The original lasts 22 mins or so, helped me focus on being steady and breathing slowly. I also like some Jam (Town Like Malice) and Style Council (Ever Changing Moods and Ever Had it Blue) are also good without being manic. Hope that helps...ooh and try Kraftwerk ‘Tour de France’...naturally for cycling but safer when running 😁😁
Classic rock playlist. If you typically run to the beat then a lock of rock is at 4 beats time signature so works a treat for me
I did a post last year re music and got some great responses, take a look you might find it helpful?
I haven't quite managed to listen to a podcast yet ie "Simon mayo and Mark Kermode Film review show on Radio 5" (other podcasts and radio shows are available) 😁
It's in my to do list 👍
I’ve noticed that I run in time to the music, something slow will probably help, hope run 3 feels better
Run 3 went much better, I took advice from Salukix and listened to kraftwerk which did help me pace myself, then at the end I mixed it up with a bit of friendly fires! 😁
I listen to all sorts, party songs soul/ Motown meatloaf Enrique Roy Orbison and Elvis to name a few made a playlist and shuffle roughly know length of song so when Laura says a couple of minutes I know it’s half a song etc or five minutes a long song like meatloaf so helps when running alone.
