Listening to music without my phone

I really enjoy listening to a radio whilst running. However, I find it annoying running with a phone. Is there any small device for runners which would allow me to listen to music without having my phone with me?

Buy an iPod shuffle from eBay. Wonderful little device! Only about £20 too

Hmm - my understanding is that Ipod Shuffle has been discontinued for quite a while. There may be "copies" available.

There are second hand ones on eBay for around £20. Really good price. Granted they do not have radio features but just load your songs onto it, clip it onto your clothing and you don’t even know it’s there (apart from the music playing in your ears lol)

My knowledge of iPods is limited, but I don't believe they have radios built in, so only play music that is loaded onto them.

I carry a phone with me, in a waist belt, on 95% of my runs, even if I am not listening to music. It is a tracker, an MP3 player, a radio and a safety device in case of emergency..........mine or someone else's.

100% phone all the way. As you say, tracker, MP3 player and a safety device. However AniMagy is looking for something less “annoying”. My suggestion was a bit weak due to AniMagy looking for something to play radio and as you rightly point out, the iPod shuffle does not have radio built in.

Put it in a waist belt and forget about it.

I use an old soft spectacles case with a clip on the back - just clip it onto my running belt or shorts waistband - keeps my phone out of the way but very easily accessible amazon.com/Full-Clip-Soft-E...

A bit late to the conversation, I did the C25k programme listening to the NHS podcasts using my ipod nano. Once I graduated I continued using it with my own downloaded music and sometimes the radio on it. I stopped using it only because I needed a more accurate measure of distance. You can buy them secondhand. I still use mine for counting my steps when walking. Fab invention.

Thanks everyone. The best is if I just keep running with my phone. I will purchase a good waist running belt.

Flipbelts are good. I sized up and wear on my hips, I used it during the hot weather and it was great.

Currently have my phone in a pocket of my running jacket ( media outlet in the pocket, M and S!)

That’s interesting Jell6. I got a cheap belt but I’m not that keen on the feeling of it high on my waist. I wasn’t sure if the larger size would sit tight and not wriggle up... how’s the Garmin 235 working out? I like the idea of not needing to carry any devices but you say you still take your phone...

Ahh, the Garmin didn't work out. I think my wrists and forearms are the problem 😐

It was just too big, the face was occupying the whole top part of my arm ( you could only see the lugs on the straps!!) It had to be returned.

I tried the flipbelt on in the shop to get the right size ,when I run in it it doesn't move. I did use it for gardening ( music required) it did move then, but there was a lot of position changing.

I have a Galaxy S9, it fits fine, plus house key.

To be honest I wouldn't like to be without my phone, it's safer, plays my music and the Samsung health app tells me my stats.

Thank you! That’s helpful... the Garmin does look big (and would need saving up for!), so I’ll scrub it off my wish list. I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you, you were so excited! I have a Fitbit so I’ll stick with that and put the phone in the waistband. It is good having the option of taking a photo and I guess emergencies do happen... Have just realised that the Fitbit has a ‘running’ function so will give that a go... 🙂
