Urghhh. Headache, got the shivers, running a temperature - wrong sort of running, that - stiff neck. I am feeling poorly. Work is stressful and I didn’t sleep at all well last night as a result. I was really looking forward to this run yesterday, even thinking about pushing the pace a bit, but it was looking like a refusal today. I thought I might as well start as I had an hour to wait and plodded off at my new slow pace. I listened to the Coach Bennett guided easy run, ‘Suck-cess’. There was a lot of talk about how some runs suck. I remember a phrase along the lines of ‘legs like stanchions of fast-hardening cement’. It wasn’t as bad as that. My legs felt heavier than usual but my breathing was fine throughout and I realised at the 23 minute mark when Michael called 5 to go that I was feeling good. I sped up (a little) for the last 5 minutes and felt I could have gone on another few laps of the track. So it was a success - or a sick-cess. Then an hours drive to get home instead of 5 minutes as some poor soul had jumped off a motorway bridge... so so sad. Now to sleep...

Is it possible for me to have given you my germs through the internet??

Well done for an amazing run even though you are poorly. Hope you get better really quickly. You are awesome 😎

Eurghhh... fever has broken. Long night of shivering and shaking in a sweat-drenched bed. Don’t feel very awesome lol but thank you 😘

I saw your blood donor post - are you graduating this Sunday?!

Hope you start to feel better soon. First run of week 9 tonight.......

Thank you... starting to feel better already. Good luck on your run tonight! An extra 2 minutes doesn’t seem much after all this running, does it? So is your plan to run tonight, Friday and Sunday?

That’s the plan yes! I can’t believe we’re on the last week.

I know... the big wide world awaits us 😳

You will be graduating before me. All being well I’m going to be cross country the next two runs then graduate on the track next Tuesday. You have timed it well - so nice to run at the weekend when there is (generally) no work and school runs! I have been tentatively thinking about a Park Run... I even found myself thinking about a half marathon the other day... 😳... may have been half-asleep and not in full control of my faculties at that moment lol 🤪

I’m really tempted by the Parkrun idea, but i’m nervous to go on my own. Need to actually make it to 5k first though!

No you don’t need to make it to 5k. I did it for run 8:3 and walked 5 mins beginning and end, ran for 28 with an extra 2 minute walk break. I did it in 40 mins and there were still 70 odd folk who finished after me. Slowest time was over an hour, fastest was 20 minutes. It’s for all abilities

I was just about to say to E27 that I really admire the people who go and do Park Runs before they have run 5k. It’s good to hear your story Forest and kudos to you!

I think it requires (yet) another mental shift for me. The first was changing my outlook from ‘running means getting to the line faster’ to ‘running means jogging at a comfortable pace’. It took about 8 weeks for that to properly sink in and find my low gear. The thought of Park Runs and getting an official time brings out the (wannabe) racer in me again! So I need to either shift my outlook on this; or get fit enough to run 5k at a pace I am both comfortable and happy with in a timed environment. I’m veering towards somewhere in between at the moment! Maybe we should pick a date and do it together virtually, E?!

Nope, but I have high hopes for better sleep/oblivion tonight!

I hope so. I’ve been awake late at night worrying too. So nice to get out walk/run and forget for a bit.

There are a lot of minutes in an hour, when it’s night time. Hope the worrying abates for you...

Ahh pretty. I wonder if runners put crampons on their shoes like mountain climbers when it gets thicker?!
