Just repeated week 2 as I am experiencing knee pain. Will this get better? Will a decent pair of trainers help? Don’t really want to fork out if i’m Not going to be able to carry on.

Shoes are a big help with knees... so yeah, they’ll help a lot. Softer running surfaces, slow running, and feet landing flat and under the body will also help. Do some knee strengthening work on your rest days and there’s no reason why your knees won’t be stronger than ever in a few weeks.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Most new runner's aches and pains are caused primarily by the impact of running, so do all you can to minimise it.

Slow down, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under your body not out in front, run on grass or treadmill and wear proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop.

Stretching after every run and doing knee strengthening exercises nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k...

may help.

enjoy your journey

Hey get yourself a knee support, I had torn ligaments in my left knee last November and didnt want to damage it again before starting so strapped it up beforehand its really helped also makesure your shoes are not loose the the laces properly. Havre a look on YouTube on gentle exercises to strengthen your knee at home hope this helps xx

Thanks everyone for your support and suggestions. Have bought some decent shoes (blimey, they’re not cheap are they!!) and am trying the knee exercises that were suggested. Today I did w3 R1 and wasn’t as hard as I thought. Onward and upward!! 😀😀🥇
