• Practically been a junk food junkie since the beginning of time (minus random health kick periods that are few and far between).
• Been a smoker since age 12 now 30 years old and still haven’t quite found it in me to quit 😒
• 0 exercise policy has kinda been my thing
BUT today... I completed week 1 run 1 and I’m buzzing! Got a tonne of other stuff done too as it’s really helped with a positive mindset! Glad there’s a rest bite between exercise days but cannot wait to get to that finish line and achieve this 💪🏻

Grand. Some people think they need other things in place to start: giving up smoking, losing some weight, to be doing brisk walking regularly, the right clothes and shoes.
Something to listen to the programme on and something better on your feet than stilettos or slippers. The rest will follow.
Those non-running days are a key part of the process. Not just physiologically but they prevent that 'boom and bust' which scuppers so many things that start with good intentions.
Well done. You may find the buzz of the exercise will make you start to feel differently about what you eat. I found I wanted stuff to make the most of my efforts rather than feel I had just undone my hard work through a lousy diet.
As for smoking, been there too. You may find that a different issue. I was one of those that quit every other week for many years. It was the catalyst of my young daughter imitating me that had me stubb out a cigarette and I haven't touched one since. Running may do that for you, I don't know as I had quit years before I took up running.
Either way you are running and thats good enough to be getting on with. W1R1 is the toughest.
Thanks for your reply ☺️ I have had that sudden realisation that I’d stumbled into the programme and started running without much prepping - mainly food wise! But like you after I ran I was suddenly very conscious that what I eat from here on out is going to effect my overall results so I’ve just dived into Waitrose and straight to the fish and veg 😂 just hoping I can keep it up!
Smoking is a weird one, I feel like I’m almost there and ready to say goodbye to it permanently but my partner has now been smoking for about a year after 13 years of quitting 🙈 I can still do it without him but it feels unfair to ask him to stop smoking in our flat just because I’ve stopped, but I will figure it out soon I’m sure.
I couldn’t agree more, run 1 is definitely the hardest and now that I’ve done it I’m quietly confident I won’t quit or give up as my competitive streak should kick in and isn’t likely to allow that to happen 🤩
Great job on run one. Quitting the smokes will obviously help, not that I’m preaching, running tends to change you into a healthier eating and living kinda person, so maybe it will come.
Try and keep your legs loose tomorrow, sitting too much in one go will make any aches worse. Maybe some yoga or core/leg strengthening work would fit in on the rest day? Nothing strenuous required.
That’s amazing advice! I could quite easily have kicked back a little too much tomorrow on rest day... but you’re totally right! I’m gonna give this yoga thing a try!
