Ready for retirement: a new start!

I retire at the end of the month ( age 55). Have never run ( my husband has run since I met him, 33 years ago). Have been quite fit, as was a rower for past 7 years, but decided to take a break from it. Not done much exercise, other than dog walking for past year as had breast cancer a year ago, and got out of the habit.

So today i downloaded the app, got on running maching and really enjoyed it. I walked at 5.5 km per hour and 'jogged' at 7 km per hour. Is that the sort of 'speed' I should be aiming at? ( Realised half way through I probably shouldnt have cycled 5km before hand...a learning experience!)

Any tips appreciated

Just take your time and go slow, maybe do your cycling on a rest day not on the same day as running good luck

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and explains that the pace recommended is one at which you can speak clear ungasping sentences as you run.

Enjoy your journey.
