W7R1 Fail!

Just come back from a much abreviated W7R1 😒 It's been a week since my last run which I found hard but manageable. I just couldn't get into it today. My breathing was all over the place, although I noticed I was a bit wheezy when I got home so maybe have a cold brewing. I couldn't seem to get into the stride of it til about halfway through by which point I'd decided to cut it short as it was chucking it down and windy and my glasses kept sliding off my nose! I did 15 minutes in the end. I honestly don't think I had anything in the tank to do the additional 10 mins even if I'd wanted to. Is this because I've had a week off or do I just put it down to one of those things and try again on Monday?

Don't get down, you got out and ran 15 minutes in horrible conditions, any run is a training run. See if you feel fit on Monday then get back out there. I found w7r2 the toughest and the good folks on here reminded me that anyone can have a bad run at any time. I haven't looked back since. Keep it slow and steady, you'll smash it!

Well done getting back out there. Maybe a combination of a few things, if you’re coming down with a cold then your body is diverting energy to fighting it already. You shouldn’t have lost any fitness in a week though. Some days we get tougher runs than others, maybe it was just that. Maybe you went off slightly too fast as you’ve had a week since you ran your pace last? Whatever it is, I wouldn’t worry.

Every run serves a purpose, making you fitter and stronger, so that 15 just did that for you and you’ll be a better runner next time you go out. It’s also a good opportunity to look back... remember W1R1 and how difficult it was, but a week ago you ran 25 minutes... that’s pretty amazing when you think about it. So, there’s no fail... it was a comeback run... the app I use has a guided run called comeback run, and it happens to be 15 minutes! Rest well and hopefully any bug you do have will be short lived.

Always remember the First Rule of C25k: The only run you fail is the run you don’t go for ! Well done for getting out there: next time you’ll nail it! As Nelson Mandela put it, “I never lose. Sometimes I win, and sometimes I learn.”

I had the same thing yesterday! Had been so tired all week that I didn't go out during the week. Try again and it's not a failure!!! Good luck x
