So I listened to a podcast tonight and it certainly took my mind off jogging, but then I realised it was the slowest I had run for some time. Is that the same for everyone? What do you listen to and what effect does it have on your running?

Podcast versus music
I also changed what I listen to and was slower. In fact the whole run was hard work.
Music verses talk, I prefer music, upbeat music they say is best but it's up to the runner what they want to listen to, try some of Jancanrun's 🎶 music, you can find that on Spotify, if you want talk, you can download a Podcast or listen to Radio 4 or 5 or another radio station without music 🎶
I switched from music to podcast. It had a big positive impact- It helped me run much longer.
Thank you for the replies. I’ve only just graduated so think I’ll try experimenting for a bit. So far I think I’ve found that running with no sound is hard work; running with podcast means I go slow but for longer; running with music makes me work harder and faster.
I had been using the NHS podcast with Laura but by the time I got to week 6 i felt the music on that was not inspiring. I then used Rock music from Rock My Run app which was much better for me. Went back to NHS Laura for first consolidation run in w10. For me it didn't have the same motivation. Running to a beat and songs I know seemed to help.
Good luck
I do both... sometimes a podcast and sometimes a guided run with music between the talking bits. If you get on with both, use them! One day you’ll be doing slow recovery and long runs (sounds like podcasts would be good) and other days tempo and speed work (crank up the music!)
