What is Your Week? December 15th to 22nd.

Onward into December we go...and ready once more, for our, What is Your Week chat.

This month seems to be simply whizzing by, and as I sit, writing this, mid afternoon, the wind is howling and the icy raindrops hurl themselves at the window, with the ferocity of a volley of small arms fire...harbingers of inescapable wetness, for those unlucky enough to be outdoors. I am glad of the warmth and the lamplight.

The days are short, and the shortest yet to come.

I am running again, when the weather permits me too, but freezing mornings and air that numbs body and mind, have meant, after my spell on the IC, I have erred on the side of caution and used my trainer when necessary:)

Many of us are on the IC with winter ailments and many recovering... if you are, then do remember...those runs always wait for us:)

With numbers increasing, it is great, to have a little fun post, so we can see who is on which week of the programme, and hopefully it will help everyone to feel more included on the forum.

We can support, encourage and generally help each other, in a positive and friendly way, with no thought of comparison.

Please remember it doesn't matter if you stay on the same week for a while, that is fine; it is a journey and it really doesn't matter how long it takes, it will be so worth it when you get to the final run.

If you have just graduated, also, this will be a great place to keep you motivated, and there is always the Quest on the Bridge to 10k forum also, for Graduates.

So, come and join the fun.... Let us know how it is going :)

I successfully completed W7, so now I am (should be...) ready for W8.

Sincerely speaking I didn’t find too challenging W7, and the credit is all about the gradualness of the program that transformed a lazy lady into a more-than-middle- age-almost- runner 😁

The plan works... well done you!

Recovery week 1

3 half mile runs at slow pace... run 1 yesterday just over the half mile to go get a bottle of wine... maybe half mile is enough 😂. Next week will be half, mile and mile. Somewhere around 3 miles early new year, touch wood. As I know my injury stretched ligaments I’m taking it really slowly to get some strength back in them.

Well done you...just keep it steady... and don't drop the wine:)

Never gonna happen... that would be alcohol abuse 😂

Middle of week 5 - rather a surprise to discover three different runs - and one long 20 mins on Monday - the thought is terrifying but so far my legs seem to keep going - loving the programme - fingers crossed the longer runs keep working.

Start week 5 Monday. I want to start week 6 Christmas Day, so I’m running mon, weds, fri that way if I really struggle with r3 I can repeat on sun and still stat w6 Christmas Day. That’s the plan anyway 😊😊🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Dear Oldfloss,

This is the line that especially speaks to me right now:

"Many of us are on the IC with winter ailments and many recovering... if you are, then do remember...those runs always wait for us:)"

Thanks for your continued posts which are so important for the health of many of us.

Hello :) I am always so pleased when I see your name:)

Yes..it is, as you know so well, all to easy to get despondent when we cannot run. If we do, as you have been doing, what we are able, when we are able.. we do get there. I know how I have felt these last few weeks having had and getting over bronchitis!

This running forum keeps us sane, lets us know we are no alone.. ever.. and reminds us that, yes... the sneaky little runs just hang around :) xxxx

Bronchitis might be what ails me at the moment! Last night I finally got up and made a paste of a half tsp of turmeric along with a little water and tried to coat my throat. This morning I feel good! Yay! My house doesn't have a humidifier. I tried putting out a big bowl of hot water from the tap hoping that would help, too. Breathing is not so good at this time--a raw throat and breathing airways! But seeing your posts reminds me that runs are waiting when I can get it together, and that's why they're so important to me. My running son is home for the holidays and will be nudging me (rather hard!!!) to get back to running. As he is home, he'll help me make time (or MAKE me make time! :D )

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to LiisaM

I am so, so glad your son is home... time for you both and for you.

This is so important for when you are alone.. coping with everything. be a tad selfish... and use ho.. it will keep you strong .

For the cough.. sherry! An emollient that coats your throat!

Okay...but not too much ! :)

I just finished week 5, day 2 today. I'm excited to go on to week 5, day 3! I'm a really slow runner right now, so I'm going to keep my pace as slow as I need to to get through the 20-minute run. After that, I'm probably just going to continue running for 20 minutes the rest of the week, up it to 25 minutes the following week, and then 30 the week after instead of using the app through week 9. Whew! So happy to be here at last!
