Feeling a bit crap...

I finished week 7 last Saturday and was really looking forward to completing my aim of graduating before Xmas. And then... boom! Flu. So I'm now sitting here with a raging headache, coughing uncontrollably at all too frequent intervals and getting very short of breath with no real effort. I can see my aim slipping over the horizon as it's highly unlikely I'll be fit to run again before the middle of next week at the earliest, and even then I can't see myself able to run for 28 minutes. I was almost -almost- starting to enjoy the running as well... ah well... ;)

Week 7? That means you are running for 25 minutes, right? From where I am sitting that looks amazing and definitely qualifies as an achievement. The flu will pass and deadlines are arbitrary 🤪

You won't be fit to run next week. Not if it is influenza.

So...once everything has settled down headache, cough and temperature...you need a week to recover.... Then... you head out gently and slowly and steadily.

The good news..you will get better.. the runs will wait... and you will enjoy them much more.. and stay safe :)

Time to look after yourself :)

Don’t despair, it happens and when you’re feeling well enough, you’ll pick up where you left off. I had an 8 week break after week 7 (chest infection) but then picked up at week 8 and jogged on to complete the programme this week. It’s massively frustrating being laid up, when you’re on the programme your life revolves around it but if you’re ill, you have to put it on hold. Get well and get running soon! 👍🏻

What a pain! It might be a cold and not flu in which case you won't be out for too long.

In either case you can't do much except rest, get well and don't rush back to running too soon. Even if you feel ok take a few extra days as you won't want to risk a relapse.

Don't worry about the running thing. There is no time limit for the programme and you'll want to be in top form when you graduate, so rest up now and get your body better.

Remember, injury and setbacks are temporary, running is forever 🙂

Middle of next week will be fine, you won’t have lost any fitness... Christmas graduation would still be on... just look after yourself and get well soon!

What they all said! Make sure you're ok before you run again, you'll be amazed how much fitness you retain. You'll be back on track in no time.

Thanks to all who posted above - I've just completed week 8 and it's looking good for week 9. With any luck I'll graduate before New Year. :-)
