8k: hi everyone just abit of advice as you... - Couch to 5K
8k
Are you going a bit too fast then Paul? It’s how I got through 8k, 9k and 10k by really pacing myself. No walking required.
It might be in your mind too. See if you can ignore the ‘needing to pause’ gremlins.
Good luck. 😀
Maybe too much too soon..even on the treadmill..And as was said on your previous posts..outdoor running is massively different.....Pop across to Bridge to 10K...there will be a lot of advice there.
As a fairly new Graduate..things have to be taken very gently...
Many people tackle marathons by having walking intervals, but they still complete the marathon. There are no rules to say you cannot walk in any event that I have seen, so it is entirely up to you.
If you are interested in run/walk as a way forward, look up the Galloway method.
If you want to run without breaks, slow down. Your runs extending distance should be at an easy conversational pace.
I think you are rushing it. May is plenty of time. Follow a 5k to 10k schedule. This will probably consist of 2 short runs in which you can vary your pace and one very slow long run each week. The plan will increase all of these runs by a suitable amount each week so that the workload increases by no more than 10%. Every few weeks you should take one while weeks break from running. Your short runs probably won't exceed 8k by May. Your very slow long run will probably get up above 10k by may. This will prepare you for a good race pace for race day.
