As in, how do I know by looking at a map how long the route is without using strava and actually running it? ☺️

On google maps, if you drop a pin (hold down on the location you want on mobile), and then click on the place name that pops up to expand it, there's a 'measure distance' option under the main set of buttons that lets you follow the road along to see the distance of your route. I think there are also some apps that people use, mapmyrun rings a bell i think.

I do have Mapmyrun, if you to test a route for a 5k or any distance note and remember where the 1 and especially the 5k split is, then run it, a ladies voice tells you every kilometre you have walked or ran, I have not heard a bell on Mapmyrun, there's a bell halfway on the C25K running app.

I use mapometer, you can lay down a route before or after and check gradients, distance in miles or km. It only has a simple map (unless you pay) but roads and some tracks are shown. I have an OS map handy though usually its easy to see where I started etc.

I like mapometer too. You can not follow roads if you like to run off piste too!

Thank you. I know I can run about 2km on week 3 (starting week 4 tomorrow), but want to plan my route so that I roughly end up at home again once I’ve finished!

There’s a website called ‘plotaroute’ - you can choose to plot ‘on foot’ then click ‘plot’ and you can then drag or click along your route - it will tell you how far in miles or km 🙂

On Mapmyrun on the computer you can actually map out a run in the Create Route section. You just click on the roads and paths you want to map out the way you think you'll run and it will show you the cumulative distance as you do it. It's quite simple really.

You can plot a route in Strava too, although you need to be using the Strava website (not the app), and preferably on a desktop or laptop computer. From the menu at the top hit 'Dashboard' then 'My Routes'.

I use goodrunguide. You are represented by a little running man icon and you just click to make him move You can toggle between satellite and footpath mode too which is dead useful Measures in km or miles and gives you a finish time if you input your expected pace

Hi, You can go to Wikimapia.org... and click and select your route and as you keep clicking, it will keep showing you the point to point distances and overall distance.
