I'm currently using Google to try and find a good way of accurately planning some new routes (by distance) but I can't seem to find one that works well / isn't too clunky. Any recommendations?
What do you use to plan your route?: I'm... - Couch to 5K
What do you use to plan your route?
I use Runkeeper, I can plan routes as well as track my runs with it. I believe there is a desk top version too, so you can manually enter your runs when you get home.
MapMyWalk works for me... Seems to be straightforward and can be used on the desktop or my phone.
Great! Thanks everyone. I'll have a look at all of those.
I use goodrunguide which goes off road and you can view footpath maps on it too. I plan all my routes on it and you can get in close. If the footpath goes through woods it shows it as a grey line.
You don't have to register to use it. You type in the location you want to explore and hit the find button
if it asks you to sign in or register you can just ignore that bit
Slightly off topic, but I've used cycle.travel/map. It's intended for cyclists rather than runners so will give you routes on minor roads and cycle paths but will ignore footpaths. However, it's very good at suggesting routes between two places that I hadn't considered. Hit the Circular route button and it will find you a different route home. If you don't like where it's sent you, just drag the route across to a place you do like and it will automatically re-route.
Mapometer is completely fab!
The best is gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6534221 This one is centred on Cardiff - Clear all points and centre it to your home and save the link and keep as a book mark.
Automatically set up fro runners/cyclists and you can manually make legs as well, Ml or Kl you can export routes - its very good.
Being a Garmin junkie, I use the route planner on the Garmin Connect website. The drawback (if you can call it that) is that I think you have to have a Garmin watch to log on.......
I use mapmyrun, which works fine and you can see other peoples routes in the vaccinity. If you really want to get geeky you can create gpx files at walkhighlands.co.uk, will show you distance and elevation. You can upload these to your phone and view with the gpxviewer app. you see the full satellite image with your route overlayed.
Thanks everyone. More good suggestions - I will have to have a play about with them all and see where it gets me.
