So I completed week 4 today and feel very proud of getting this far! The first 3 weeks I found difficult. My brother and his wife who run regularly suggested this couch to 5k program. I turned 50, my children have flown the nest and I needed to do something for me. The first weeks were really hard but now am starting to feel the benefits of completing week 4. Have looked at week 5 and am sure run 1 will be ok but am filled with trepidation for runs 2&3. Any tips are appreciated.

Hi!

My story is similar to yours......turned 50 earlier on this year....3 children who have all now flown the nest and I wanted to get fit!

You really can do this.....just don't look too hard at the runs ahead....,just run them and you will be surprised how well you do.

And,you just need to run them slowly........I am not fast by any means but it's running at a steady pace without stopping that counts, not speed!

I am due to run week 9,run2 tomorrow .......we can both do this!!😂🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Well done for completing week 4. I turned 54 just before starting this. I found it difficult from the start - 60 seconds never felt so long! Each week I doubted my ability to run for longer. I dreaded week 5 but I did run 3 on Friday. I still can’t quite believe that I ran for 20 mins! As I set out I was telling myself it was ok if I didn’t do it because I could try again until I managed it. The first 10 mins were fine. My breathing settled into a good rhythm. 10 to 15 mins I thought my legs would let me down but I listened to my music and thought about how many more songs I needed to run through and then it was 5 more mins to go and I started to believe I could do it. The sense of achievement afterwards was great. You too can do this. Believe in yourself and good luck.
