W4R3 - A win and a loss

Completed W4R3 in some very cold temperatures, felt like I'd won the lottery when I got back home to a warm shower! Super proud of myself for getting this far and I'm looking forward to W5R1 on Monday. Also decided to weigh myself after these 4 weeks and I've lost 15lbs thanks to calorie counting and my increased exercise doing C25K. All very positive and I hope it continues 😊 Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks!

That's brilliant news! How are you coping with the pain during your runs?

BlackMon profile image
BlackMon in reply to C25Kate

Pain during the running isn’t too bad, it sort of kicks in afterwards. How did you find week 4?

C25Kate profile image
C25Kate in reply to BlackMon

Definitely take it easy on your rest days. Week 4 runs 1 & 2 were absolutely fine but I struggled a bit with run 3! Not sure if it was because we were back down to low temps of 1 degrees or not? I was getting accustomed to the slightly warmer climate over the last week or 2 haha!

You should know better than to trust this country’s weather!!! Do you tend to run at the same time of day? What little habits have you fallen in to?

C25Kate profile image
C25Kate in reply to BlackMon

Ran a bit later than usual so maybe I was just tired! Will try keep to my usual time from now on :)

I try to go around 5ish after work and it’s a little cooler

Well done and fantastic ‘loss’. I have been watching what I am eating too over the course of couch to 5k but this week I have been so hungry and have had to eat so much! It’s been a busy week with w5 runs, decorating 2 rooms at home and lots of walks over the long bank holiday weekend so think I needed the extra food! Keep going! 👏

Thank you! I feel like you were me last week...so so hungry and I was snacking on veggies, fruit, yoghurts but not one of them satisfied me! Ended up eating so much bread from my local bakery that I'm pretty sure he thinks I have a family of 10 at home when it's just me lol. You keep going too! 😊

Well done. Was due to complete wk4 run 3 too this morning but I’ve woke up to a blanket of snow. Hopefully it’ll melt later

Thank you! Yes, be very careful, good luck 🥶

The snow melted so I made it out. Thank goodness...if I tried to squeeze this extra run in next week it would’ve made a tricky week looking at what week 5 has in store 😳

Well done for making it out! I am nervous for W5, hoping the plan has set me up for it haha let me know how you get on. X

I sure will. Same to you. I’m planning on Tues, Thurs and Sat next week. I’m actually looking forward to the first two. But day three??? Good luck x

Hiya. I was really dreading W5r3 but I did it this morning! I’m thinking that if I (who could hardly run for 90 seconds at the beginning) you 2 definitely can. And I know that lots of people talk about it but I know that this is as much mental training as physical. One of the things that kept me going this morning was thinking about writing on the forum ‘I can’t believe I did it!'

AdrenalDaisy profile image
AdrenalDaisyGraduate in reply to Jilldiamond

Aww well done!! Great work. That’s really good to hear. I did this last year on a treadmill but I struggled with wk5 day3. I definitely feel stronger from running outside so I’m hopeful. But I think you’re right about mental training and this forum helps with that. 10 years ago I used to run 10K regularly. I’ve found it very very hard to get going again.

Aww Jill that's really motivating! ☺️ Well done for completing W5, I think I'm just getting in my head about it already...must learn to trust the plan and not overthink it too much. I couldn't run for 60 seconds at first! Looking forward to it now 🥰

Did wk5 r1 yesterday which was ‘just’ fine. But I suspect it could be my limit right now. Have you been out yet?

C25Kate profile image
C25Kate in reply to AdrenalDaisy

I have - It went suspiciously too well 😂 I was dying at the 5 min runs in W4 so I though I'd be the same this week but it was a very enjoyable run! I have been making sure to stay super hydrated this week so I think that might have helped? Still super nervous for the big 20 min run!

AdrenalDaisy profile image

Amazing! Glad you enjoyed it. Well done. I did day two this evening. My legs felt like stiff lumps of lead most of the time but I didn’t feel out of breath or anything so I ignored my legs and I made it. Have you done day two yet? X

C25Kate profile image
C25Kate in reply to AdrenalDaisy

Well done! My legs feel heavy too, I heard that dehydration makes your legs feel heavier so I'm hoping my 2.5L of water a day helps them feel a bit lighter. I haven't been out tonight - went to a garden party for a family birthday...didn't think drinking gin and running was a good idea so I will go for my run tomorrow haha! X

AdrenalDaisy profile image
AdrenalDaisyGraduate in reply to C25Kate

Ahh I tend to blame my age and lack of activity from working from home for things like this, but you may have a point there. I joined my daughter at teatime at the pub for a drink then we went home for a few gins. I didn’t sleep well then had a busy day today so probably didn’t drink much water. I hope this is the problem as it can be fixed!! I’ll make sure I’m hydrated for day three and see if that helps. Good luck on your run tomorrow x

Well...I didn't realise W5R2 was two 8 minute runs so that was a big suprise! I had an ice cream cone during the day and aaaallll I could feel was that swooshing about in my stomach during the run, even after a few hours 😩 Not really giving myself the best chance of success haha. Big run on Sunday! X

AdrenalDaisy profile image
AdrenalDaisyGraduate in reply to C25Kate

Very well done - especially after an ice cream. We’ve had a few garden parties this weekend so not felt like doing the big day 3 yet. I’m definitely going to do it tomorrow. Did you do yours yet? X

C25Kate in reply to AdrenalDaisy

Literally just in the door from the big 20...wow...that was tough 🥵 Felt great for about 13 minutes, slowed down a bit and got a second wind at around 15 minutes! Powered through then started to feel a stitch coming on at 18 minutes in so the last 2 minutes I was doing a slow jog but at least I kept moving! X

AdrenalDaisy profile image
AdrenalDaisyGraduate in reply to C25Kate

Amazing!! Congratulations 🥳 !! I bet you feel as though you’re walking on air now. . Last year I was running regularly and that 13/15 minutes was the point I’d want to stop to walk for a bit, my route goes uphill at this point so I used to let myself off and walk - and I wasn’t doing this programme. I don’t think it matters how slow you go as long as you’re not walking. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I’ll just go as slow as possible and update you tomorrow. X

C25Kate profile image
C25Kate in reply to AdrenalDaisy

Thank you!! ❤️ Best of luck to you, if I can do it then you certainly can. Let me know how you get on. Xx

AdrenalDaisy profile image
AdrenalDaisyGraduate in reply to C25Kate

I made it. The route I take is 50% uphill and a set of steps to go over a motorway footbridge and of course I had to run all of it. The last part was uphill too but took me to the ‘summit’. I could easily have ran more since the next bit was downhill - which will help the 30 minute runs coming up soon. 🤞 X

AdrenalDaisyGraduate in reply to AdrenalDaisy

I ran VERY slowly though. I’m getting good at that haha. Can always speed up later 😉

Aww that's brilliant news!! So chuffed for you 🥳 I need to learn to slow down haha good luck for the rest of the week. Xx

AdrenalDaisy profile image
AdrenalDaisyGraduate in reply to C25Kate

Yeh. I need to try and squeeze in three more runs this week. 😉

Super slow is wonderful. I think you can achieve anything of you do that. If you’re not doing that now then that’s brilliant. You’ll be 10K before long! I can’t wait to see how much more we can do. X

No problem! I made up one last night called the lockdown libre. Using tea.Week 3 starts for me tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

I should get some scales to see if I'm losing weight too!

C25Kate profile image
C25Kate in reply to Lockdownpositive

Ohhh sounds like an interesting cocktail! No scales needed, I usually just go by how my clothes fit and how I feel but it is always nice to see the number on the scale go down ☺️ I'll only be weighing myself once a month to not get obsessed over it!
