Is it necessary to have both trail and road shoes? I run trails twice a week and road once a week.

Apparently you can get hybrids! I'm not an expert but the guy who did my gait analysis said trail shoes are more cushioned so I guess to protect your feet you are best with trail shoes, but you can run on roads with them too. Hopefully someone more experienced will be along soon!
What better excuse to buy two pairs? 😍
I have had both but I thought the main issue was that trail shoes have harder soles that are harder wearing and don't wear out on the rougher ground and you don't feel every lump and bump under your feet. My trail shoes are a bit too grippy for road running.

Most of my runs are mixed surface and my default shoe is a road shoe, but if it is very wet, muddy slippery or rough then I use trail shoes. In my experience trail shoes are not nearly as well cushioned as road shoes.
While you can use road shoes on trails if they provide enough grip, using trail shoes for sustained running on roads is not advisable because they will wear quickly.
I think I need both... plus cross country spikes, but I may have an addiction to shoe shopping 😂
