Ok, so I'm still overweight but have lost a few lbs, I still look like a beetroot but my recovery time is shorter, I still look at the ground when anyone is walking towards me but I am noticing the great outdoors more, and despite a wobbly nanosecond freak out when Laura said 'right, off you go' I did actually complete the session.
I've just seen R3 tho and am nervous for the first time about a run, but I know it's mind over matter so I'm just going to think how great I'll feel once I've done it and post my elation at such an achievement, just like all you graduates did.

Great run today. Recovery from beetroot is a great measure of fitness level. Weight is going the right way... that’s one to never rush, it’s so incredibly hard to maintain if you do... slow and steady is the only way it works long term.
Enjoying your surroundings more is a great sign too... must be easier if it doesn’t take all of your focus. Keep that head up, be proud to be doing this, make some eye contact... yes, you’re overweight, but you’re probably fitter than the people you pass on your runs. I don’t subscribe to obese models on covers of magazines like we’re supposed to these days, it’s every much as bad a message to send young people as the size zero lot they’re replacing... but if I saw them trying to get in shape I’d stand and applaud them.
You have the mindset exactly right for the 20... you can do it... enjoy.
Thank you for your comments. I may even remove my baseball cap at some point!
Unfortunately I'm an experienced yo yo dieter but the combination of good food with a regular exercise/endurance plan is going to be my mantra for life. Yo yo no more!
Thanks so much for your words of encouragement! I'm proud of myself for doing it but feel self conscious of my red face but I will take heed, be proud and enjoy my surroundings more.
Red is the in-shade... along with beetroot../ post box...lobster and tomato... we have had them all and they are..fantastic We had a poll once to see who was which shade!
Trust in the program. I felt exactly the same about this run which I completed on weds. I talked myself out of it twice, then thought.....let’s give it a go. It’s a mental challenge not a physical one.
Let us all know how you did. I’m starting W6R1 today. I’m 50 next year too and I’m also 4 stone overweight and go bright red when I run!!! Good luck xxx
