.... and I'm feeling quite s@#t about it, although I think it's largely my own fault.
I completed W8 R1 last Wednesday, was a little tough towards the end but complete it I did. So, planned to do R2 last Friday but due to a very busy day I was unable to fit it in. Then cue a hectic weekend which included too many beers, too much junk food and not enough sleep. Needless to say, I spent Sunday (and part of yesterday) feeling slightly worse for wear and was in no mood to complete the already overdue R2.
Anyway, I woke up this morning and felt quite refreshed after getting a better nights sleep, had a nice healthy breakfast, prepared myself mentally and physically to tackle the run and got myself ready and out the door. 15 minutes into the run, I gave up. I was honestly exhausted. Legs were heavy, breathing was too rapid and I was just done. I tried to convince myself to carry on but I felt I couldn't and didn't want to push my body too hard to do something when it clearly wasn't up to it.
Now, not only has this left me feeling annoyed with myself and quite frustrated but it also made me stop to think about the effects having one or two 'off days' can have when you are training hard for something like C25K and the negative impact it can cause. I am not a big drinker and my diet is generally quite good so didnt think my indulgences would have too much impact on my progress. I guess i was wrong and this will serve as a wake up call for me.

Hi Shmev82. Don't get down there's no fails on here you did a 15 minute training run and that's 15 minutes more than most of the lazy population of the UK did! Taking a couple of extra days shouldn't have that impact, in fact a weeks break can sometimes be beneficial! Some runs are just crap - mine was w7r2 but the good folks on here bucked me up and my next two runs were great - cant wait for w8r2 tomorrow but we have to take our rest days dont we! We're 5 runs from graduation and that's amazing isnt it
Yeah definitely. I'm choosing to focus on how great I felt last week after completing week 7 than not completing today's run. We are so close and I'm determined to get there, I'm not going to let this stop me, I've come too far for that. It just feels like a slight setback but one that I know I'll bounce back from. I will just try to eat smarter and perhaps not drink so much at these social events.
15 minutes of running, 15 minutes worth of development and strengthening. It may not have been the run you planned, but it will be a useful run.
5 rest days hasn’t lost you any fitness, and I doubt that food from Saturday would be affecting you... in fact junk food isn’t bad fuel. I think the most likely suspect is alcohol... not in itself, but in that it causes dehydration, or hangover to give it its common name. It can take a couple of days to get that back. Have you been drinking regularly?
Hi. No I don't drink that regularly at all, I'd say on average once or twice a week maybe and even then I dont drink anymore than 4 pints total. I'm going to try again on Thursday and I will not be drinking any alcohol between now and then. Plenty of Fruit, veg and water instead!
Hehe... I meant water! Do you sip water? Some people gulp it which mainly passes through. I usually have a couple of glasses of something nice at the end of a run day... then it’s back on the water 😂
Oops sorry! If you mean as I run, then no, I don't drink anything, just water before and after I run. But generally yes, I do drink lots of water everyday.
Ok... maybe just a sucky run... next one will be better. I don’t take water in a run, so just after is the only time I’m thirsty after my morning brew.
Yeah, I know some people do sip water while running but I find it just messes up my breathing & rhythm. I'm putting today down to just a bad run but am focusing on the positives of my progress over the last few weeks.
I had quite a few bad running days and it makes you feel awful but you just carry on and repeat the run and as you repeat it you beat it. I had a few problems with my shins and took about 6 days off from running at the end of week 8. Just completed week 9 yesterday and boy it does feel good to get to the end and say I did it. You can do it and your already doing it. Keep at it keep going
Omw! You have run for a solid 15minutes!!! That is NOT failed! That is fantastic! And like every other run something to learn from. Maybe repeat the previous week to regain confidence?
That's not a bad idea actually, although I think I will attempt W8 R2 again beforehand. If I find that I struggle again then I may well repeat the previous week. Good shout.
