Hi All - a bit frustrated as been doing 5k and a bit more for 6 weeks or more and my last 3/4 runs can’t get over 4K - is it the cold or the new trainers??? Or is it just me??πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Whats holding you back, pain? Breathlessness? Fatigue. If you are running the distances regularly have you upped your fuel ( food) to compensate? Are you well hydrated? Are the shoes rubbing? Is it a mental thing? Or are you getting your rest days? Maybe tell us a bit more and someone will try to help I'm sure.

Hi Avocado - lack of energy I think !! Thought it just might be the cold but everyone else here seems not to mention anything- tbh I love the cold and enjoy the run as I’m a hot person!! Just perhaps need more rest or something!! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

More rest, more water or more fuel perhaps. Do you carry a bottle of water with you, that might be the first thing to try, I know its cold but you are still going to lose plenty of water as sweat and vapour as you breathe. If plain water doesn't fix it maybe try making a weak energy type drink ( a bit of sugar or sugary squash and a teeny bit of salt), and see if that helps. Your body is using more fuel to keep warm even before you start running. Easy things to try out. Hope it improves.

When did you last have a week of no running?

Maybe you need a break.

If you are finding that you can't run as far as before, perhaps you are pushing too hard. Remember that 80% of your running should be at an easy conversational pace, especially when you are running near the limit of your regular duration.

Have your diet, sleeping pattern, life stresses etc. changed recently? There are so many variables to take into account that it is impossible to give you a definitive answer.

I’m running 3 times a week almost since I bagan in May - the odd day off due to hols or just not working in my schedule- will try the hydration and more rest and see what happens - just on a bit of a wobble as don’t understand it and am frustrated- love running though πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I would try a week with no running.

You will probably come back refreshed and feel the benefit.
