I just ran non-stop for 20 minutes....

Writing it down might make me believe it! I know I’m repeating myself, but just five weeks ago I struggled to walk - seriously. When I started the first five minute warm up walk it was at 2km/h and I thought after the first minute or so I’ll never do this. I can’t begin to describe how thrilled I am, or how life changing this is for me. I am beginning to believe that I (little old me who never achieves anything much) can do this and that I don’t have to decline steadily and fattly (is that even a word?) into old age. I can be fit and energetic at 58,60,70. This is an enormous shift for me - in my family growing old has always meant getting old and I was sliding into a well worn track. I have two days off now as my son is getting married this weekend, but don’t want to leave it for three days so am taking my running kit with me so that I can do my run in the hotel gym on Monday! I’ve said it before but - WHO IS THIS PERSON????? 😂😂😂

Fantastic post, and well done on running for 20 mins! Such a great achievement. I graduated last November, and can now run for over an hour, but that first time I ran 20 mins during C25K is still my proudest achievement. And you are so right. Growing older in age does not mean decrepitude and immobility. Getting older is inevitable, but becoming unfit and overweight is not! Enjoy your son's wedding and your next run!

Awesome job! Go you. Its a fabulous feeling to have run for 20 mins and as you say it seemed almost impossible at the beginning. If that's the change you can make in 5/6 weeks just think what we are capable of. Not just in terms of running but all aspects of our lives.

Enjoy week 6 but take it steady. Sometimes W6R1 can catch people out. I just went really steady to start then pushed towards the end as i felt ok. Note pushed just means shuffled a bit quicker not running like a gazelle, lol x

Well done pickles. Us oldies don't have to whither away and die. Let's do this and grow old disgracefully instead 🍷🍷🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

You got this. Go pickles go

As a 58 year young person who is on week one, I am so encouraged and inspired by this. I want to be where you are in five weeks 🤞

Brilliant post. Running does make you feel great and age is no barrier at all. Truly liberating. It does make you obsessive though; I have a long drive next weekend to see our son and his in-laws to be and like you, the main issue on my mind isn't the wedding arrangements and behaving myself (always a challenge!), but "when can I fit in a run?". Will slip my gear into the car and hope for the best.
