Warm up after graduation

I already spend around 5 minutes stretching before my runs now, just completed W9R2 and Saturday is planned for my graduation. When I want to consolidate afterwards do I still do my five minute warm up walk? I’m going to miss Laura🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Best of luck Lisa for Saturday, of course you should do a warm up walk before your graduation🎓🏃 run and stretching after.

Thank you, I always do stretch and warm up it’s just the five minute walk before and after, I’ve always stuck to the plan so thinking about it you’re right I absolutely should 🙈🙈🙈🙈

Great run Lisa.

You’ll need a warmup for every run, although in some races you’re probably better off using the start as the warmup if there’s going to be a few minutes or more crossing the start line.

Thank you, I’ll do that on Saturday. To be honest it’s probably going to be a ten minute walk from the car to the park. I think I’m just being blonde tonight 😔😔😔😔😔

Elite athletes warm up, so should you, or your injury risk soars, especially as colder weather arrives.

Opinions/research vary on whether stretching before a run is harmful or ineffective but as I understand it, it is no longer thought to be helpful, so arguably you should be switching the placement of stretching in your session. The 5 minute walk *is* your warm up.

I stick with the walks before and after. I stretch (yoga) at other times but of course doing it straight after the session gets it done and many people do that. Interestingly the only times I feel a natural urge to stretch is when I have skimped the walk at the end.

Psychologically I think that walk has merits too.

Different things may need to happen with organised events but I don't do them so I don't know!

What are people doing about clothing when it’s colder if you warm up walk outside? I only need shorts and t-shirt for the run but that’s too little for 5 minutes walking at the start? I don’t want to carry an extra layer for the run.

Not what you're looking for?
