Hi! Starting at Week4

Hi everyone. I've just started at week 4 after commiting the classic new runner's mistake of getting going by myself for a month, pushing too hard, and ending up at the point my legs, ankles, and knees were absolutely killing me. I've given myself a couple of weeks off, then decided to droo back a bit and take it sensibly. Week4 seems to be the right choice so far after the second run, and i might repeat it next week just to stabilise myself!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

There is no harm in starting at the beginning, even if it seems very easy. It will gently build your stamina and strength.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks Iannoda, open to all the advice i can get! As a big unfit guy, discovering the fact i actually like running was a massive surprise, so i really want to take it slow and easy, as i'm determined to carry on full time from now on.

Great to have you on board and you will read "slow and steady" very often on this forum, as it really is the only safe way to progress.

The plan provides that carefully structured progression and really does work.

Welcome.

Good job getting to week 4 (maybe beyond and back, but who cares as long as you don’t quit?)

You’ve learned from the mistakes... that’s good. Use this forum lots, chances are someone’s been where you are in life or with a running issue, so we can help.

Find your happy pace, and if a run calls for it slow down some more... you’re building endurance here, not trying to break records.

Happy running.

Thanks for the welcome! Seems to be some good people here - i've already been browsing some other posts, lots of good advice.

Woohoo!! Week 4 complete!

I’ve recently completed W5R1 and will just say - trust the programme. If you got through week 4, you’re likely ready, it might just be in your head 😊 But no harm repeating the week!

Good on you! I'm trying to stabilise mostly with w5r3 in mind, that looks like the real flip over point to me. I'm almost looking forward to it!
