Up until this point, I had always run on the treadmill. I chose this because I didn't have the confidence to run in public, and didn't want the weather to be a deciding factor as to whether I ran that day. I always planned on making it outside eventually and yesterday was that day!
It was... different. My gym is surrounded by a massive field so it took me 25 minutes to run around it 1 and a half times. Running on grass obviously felt different but it wasn't too bad. It felt lovely having the breeze on my face and seeing the nights sky. I had no stitches and spoke to myself as a confirmation that I was breathing well. All good! It felt so freeing as uni has been really hectic. My legs felt ALOT more sore after, and still do so we'll see how tomorrow goes.
It was funny because Sarah actually said on the program that if you had been running on the treadmill up to this point to try the outdoors and I chose to do it anyway! 😊 One downside of running outside is I have no idea how much distance I covered but I'm sure I can find an app for that.

Wow. Well done for getting outside. I couldn't think of nothing worse than running on a 'dreadmill' going nowhere. I only manage a few minutes before boredom sets in. Yes there's the elements but its also very liberating running outside. Maybe I'm a tiny bit jealous that you can do both. As for tracking your runs, i recommend Strava or a Garmin watch.
I actually really like the treadmill. Multiple TV's to choose to look at, I have my noise cancelling headphones so I'm playing my favourite songs. I also have a nice view of the outdoors, but it is good to get fresh air! I want to start running with my friends as well. They are considerably better than I am but at least now I can hold my own! I'll have a look at Strava!
There’s many apps for that! Welcome to the great outdoors. As someone who’s been through knee problems I prefer running on grass, but every surface has taken me a bit of getting used to and the knees tend to be the bit of me that reacts the most. I’ve recently been advised to run on as many different surfaces as I can... haven’t broken that news to my knees yet 😂. All I do when I switch is concentrate on Oldfloss’s kissing the ground advice and go slower and gentler than I’m used to.
Outside is lovely. I like taking different routes and will often drive to the downs if it's sunny. Obviously I don't run up them 🤣, it's hard enough walking but running along the tops on a sunny morning is joyous.
As well as Strava look at runkeeper and mapmyrun. All give slightly different stats but each has a free to use section that I find more than adequate.
