My first run of week 2 today but I done it a little bit differently I ran for the first three segments in total that's 5 minutes, walked for the next segment 2 minutes... ran for three.. walked for 1..... That's 3 runs in total of 5 minute each & two woks of 2 mminute... I feel bloody fantastic because I smashed it✌️❤️... Proud of myself
Week 2: My first run of week 2 today but I done... - Couch to 5K
Week 2
Be careful... the plan is structured to minimise injury risk... making it up as you go along isn’t necessarily gonna end all happy.
Totally get what you're saying.... But I know my body & it was right for me at this time.... The next 2 runs might be different but if I can I'm going to do the same as today 👍😁
Aww massive well done Tiredmumof3! Great feeling isn't it. Huge confidence boost too.
Thank you ✌️🏃
Sounds as though you don't really fancy following a structured programme like C25K if you've decided to do your own thing after one week. Fair enough, there are other ways to get into running.
Just a thought though from years of reading this forum: lots of us 'knew our own bodies' in a variety of ways and found that actually we had a lot to learn - whether that was belief in our abilities or how to steer our enthusiasm sustainably (and very often both of those at different points!). That for many of us is one of the satisfactions of the programme - that we completed all the sessions, for those of us who did the podcast presentation that we endured music we wouldn't lie on the couch for, and that wonderful sensation of a shared experience.
Well done.
Great that you are enjoying it.
How much do you know about running?
Do you know, for instance, that when you run, unlike other exercise, the impact causes microtears in your muscles, which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running. This process is slow and progressive, taking many months, which is why C25K is slow and progressive. That is just an example of the sort of thing that GoogleMe is pointing out.
You may well get away with doing things differently and doing more than the programme suggests. Then again, you may feel wonderful about how you are pushing yourself and how your body is responding, only to be struck by a sudden muscle failure.
I am afraid that us boring old farts, who have been here for years, have seen it many times.
C25K is tried and tested and designed to keep injury risk minimal.
What's the hurry?
Take care.
Im glad you said that, I thought I could just get into running with no problems as I'm basically quite fit. I did too much !
I had to do W1 twice because I couldn't progress to W2 straight away, then on week three of doing W1 I decided I could do two runs at that level back to back, and yes, got an Achilles injury... I've not run for almost month because of it, and needed PRICE ever since.
Did some exercise classes this week with no trouble and actually repeated W1R1 yesterday for the first time since the beginning of September. I'm so excited to be back with no ill effects. I'm going to be REALLY careful this time, so W1 will stay till I'm really safely better and able to do it.
Better safe than sorry !
