Losing weight

Has anyone else found that they haven’t really lost weight? I don’t have much to lose, I’m within my healthy weight already but want to be more comfortable in my clothes. My other half says it’s because I’m building muscle but just wanted the opinion of fellow c25kers! I’m on wk 7.

I don’t think people tend to lose much weight on this programme alone, but most say they’ve toned up and have dropped a size or two. I’m not in it for weight loss either, but I’ve definitely noticed a change in my shape! 😀

I do feel like I’ve toned up a bit, I guess I just expected to be burning more calories and there losing a bit too. I’m eating healthily and controlling portion size so I think I’ll just appreciate feeling better!

I’ve lost some - have also been eating healthier. I’m not overweight but definitely feel more toned. The weight loss has come with the longer runs towards the end of the programme

I’ll just keep going then and enjoy feeling healthier without worrying to much about weight!

Your OH is right too... if you are trying to lose a couple of pounds the muscle build and hydration would slow that, but the benefits far outweigh that effect.

Running isn’t a weightloss thing... it would take more than a marathon to burn a pound of fat off... and that’s not allowing for having half of the fuel for that run in your muscles already... it should tone you up though. At healthy BMI this may be less noticeable in terms of inches. Some people get lucky and lose a bit, but mainly it’s about nutrition.

We don't lose much weight out on the road - to really lose weight we have to go back into the kitchen!!! After all, the kitchen is where we picked up the excess weight we are carrying.

Surely you mean stay out of the kitchen... and the biscuit tin... and the takeaway menus... and the cake leftover from an office birthday

(yikes i'm hungry. Sorry!)

Thank you x

In the 18 months of doing this my shape has changed enormously. No weight loss (I too am reasonably ok weight wise) but 2 sizes down in jeans and I am much less careful about what I eat. I think it is an incremental thing over months rather than during the 9 weeks of the programme

I’ll look forward to fitting into my jeans better then! Thank you x

One thing I noticed since I took up exercising and running is not so much weight loss although I may have lost a few lbs and my BMI has gone down very slightly from 23 to 22, I think it said before 23.1 and now it's at 22.9. Before I started those exercises whenever I got off a bus or train after sitting down for about 30 to 60 minutes I was a bit stiff, but no longer, I just walk immediately without any stiff feeling whatsoever.

That’s a big bonus!

I've lost no weight through running alone. Sadly I only lose weight if I eat less...!
