Hi. On week 4 (having taken a few weeks to get there!). Has anyone got any recommendations for running shoes? I’ve been wearing my walking shoes or a pair of Sketchers that I have. My right ankle is feeling a bit weak and I think I’d better get the right support. Any info would be really welcome.

Running shoes
Can’t help as such, but I can point you here.
I’m not very fast yet and am still fine in my old general purpose Adidas trainers, but there are some real experts in shoe porn on this site (you know who you are !) - try browsing through the old posts and you’ll find some glamorous photos to give you a start off. Happy running!
The best ones are the ones that fit you best! The post linked above is a long one, but if you're waffling on getting a proper pair fitted at a running shop for your gait, read the whole thing, I think you'll be well convinced by the end.
Definitely worth getting your gait analysis done to find out which type of shoe is best, then try as many as you can to find which are the most comfy ..
Different brands Will feel slightly different ..
You can if you feel obliged get them from the store that does the analysis or shop around online or locally ..
No one can recommend you shoes as they have to be right for you. Google ‘gait analysis near me’ and get sorted by a professional. Can be expensive but once you know your gait, you can buy future pairs online knowing what type to buy.
Check the link out in the FAQ post..no one will recommend shoes, ( we can all say what we like ) because we are all so different But.. your shoes are your best asset, next to you!
Go to a good running shop and talk to them. Good footwear is essential! If you are lucky you will be able to get good runners cheaply. I am not lucky...!👟👟
Yes. Grey ones. You definitely need grey trainers. They'll help you run.
It is harder to give you an indication of the model or brand, but here is a list of the things to think about:
Your height, weight, distance run per week, what running surface(s) you run on, feet width (some brands are available in widths), your gait (toe, heel, mid-foot landing), your pronation (under/over/neutral), preference for toe-drop, preference for stiffness or support, preference for cushioning, preference for light/heavier shoe.
A visit to your local independent running store (hint: it is not a warehouse on the edge of town) will work you through the things to think about, probably analyse your running gait, find a selection of shoes that fit your budget, and send you off with a pair of shoes that suit you (and offer a guarantee if you don't get on with them).
Alternatively, you could just buy a pair of gray ones online & see what happens.
If you wish to buy running shoes do go to a running shop rather than a general sports retailer or the internet. Staff will be trained to assess your running style and chose the right shoes for you. You can ask at a local running club or parkrun if you get stuck.
