My goal is losing 20 kg

Hi! I am 33 years old. I am 74 kg now and I’ve been getting tired of my yo-yo dieting :/ I like this app and I think I am going to start my first week running :)

My problem is that I don’t enjoy cooking because I live alone so I prefer eating outside or anything at home. Healthy food and following a good healthy diet is one of my obstacles. I feel I can’t go on with this! Well I like food and I like eating :)

I will start working out and I’ll try to commit.

Anyone has more ideas about how to stay motivated to continue my new lose weight journey:)

Best for all

Welcome to the forum and well done on making a wise decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Without a good well balanced diet you are not going to lose weight, however long you run. C25K will not make you lose weight, but it will get you much fitter and more active and if you keep in touch with the support on this forum, then I would not be at all surprised if you find your eating habits changing.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks for this. I saved the reading so I’ll read all of it :) I have to stop this bad habit and start eating regularly on time and of course cooked food at home :)

Thanks Iannoda

Sounds really silly but I have lost 32lbs on the Marble Diet In the last 3 months. The Marble diet you ask? Well it’s really easy I have two glass jars. One a fat one and one a tall thin one. When I started I put 56 marbles ( equating to my target loss of 56 lbs) in the ‘ fat’ jar and then I weigh myself every morning and if I have lost a 1lb I move a marble from the fat jar to the thin one. OK it’s silly but it keeps my focus on my weight each day. And yes I have had to return marbles to the fat jar occasionally but that tends to drive me on to me get it back over the next day or two. Good luck it’s not easy but a bit of motivation can, I have found, carry you a long way

Wow! I completely liked this! Thanks for sharing it :) sounds actually great because I use marbles at school where I teach for the calendar. So yes I think I am buying some marbles in the coming days :)

Thanks

Welcome

Diet is a horribly abused word. Diet should be for life and just a healthy eating approach should suffice. A bad diet is impossible to outrun. Running will tone you up... but actually slows weight loss in the early stages as it builds muscle that weighs more than fat... you may end a week fitter having eaten well and step on the scales and get 0 weight loss... this is pretty normal. What I recommend is taking some measurements, certainly waist and thighs, top of arms etc. What you should see then as you get fitter is you getting smaller, and that can show you more than the scales alone.

Weight Loss NHS on here is an excellent forum. They will advise you to visit the NHS BMI calculator, which will give you a calorie range to eat daily... stay towards the top end of that scale and you should lose weight slowly... and losing it slowly means it’s likely to stay off. The calorie range it gives will almost certainly be higher than any of the “we want your money diets” which love nice fast weight loss as it’s very difficult to maintain and the odds are you’ll be back to lose it all over again some day. Kerrrrching!

Good luck on your journey.

Thanks for this advice. Actually I am vegetarian so sometimes I feel like don’t know what to eat! I go most of the time to Lebanese restaurants. I have to start paying attention to the number of calories I take every day:)

If running will help me building muscles I’ll be super happy then ;)

Thanks again for your advice !

I’ve been vegetarian since I was 14... there’s not many restaurants that I trust, what looks healthy often isn’t. I try to cook at home from ingredients. The only way veggie gets tough is trying to go low carb... but I don’t think that’s the way to go for most people anyway. My big weakness used to be pizza... still is... but I make my own dough and roll it super thin, load with my 5, 6 or 7 a day and it’s pretty healthy.

Running won’t give you huge muscles, just strong ones.

I’ve just spoken with my Nephew and he uses the Gousto website for meal ideas! They put their recipients online - it’s very few ingredients - and super-quick to cook. You don’t have to order the food from them. I’m also veggie as well and it can be difficult to do anything quick and tasty that doesn’t involve cheese 🤣

I am happy to start making my meals actually. I also got from the internet some recipes, so today for lunch I made a carrot & cabbage salad and some rice with peas:) it was gooooood and tasty;)

I think for dinner I’ll eat beens salad with tomatoes and onions :)

I also worked out for an hour but at home because here in Paris it’s rainy and windy :/

I’ve started using the MyFitnessPal app. You just log in everything you eat (you can even scan the barcode on food using your phone) and it works out your calorie consumption. If you wear a Fitbit you can then synch it so the app and it will add any calories you’ve burned running to your daily calorie allowance (mine is 1450). It keeps me really focused on what i’m eating and motivates me to exercise. Lost a few pounds already and loving it!

Yes I actually tried it but didn’t continue, I didn’t feel comfortable using it. I guess I prefer the simplest things like having calories list and then weighing the ingredients before cooking. Actually I found out that my problem was eating too late in the night and sleeping after a long day working. Now I pay attention to that and since 2 days am not eating after 20:00. :)
