Give your head a wobble.... Or not?

After starting week 3 I find I'm now being told to keep my head still.

This is difficult, any tips?

Your head is heavy so it’s better to look ahead Every so often you can check yourself and haul yourself up if you’ve slumped

Don’t worry too much about technique at this stage. Just do what comes natural. you'will get more timely tips as you progress 🙂👍

What I would say is that Paula Radcliffe managed to run very successfully indeed with a wobbly head. It's not a big issue just as long as your neck doesn't suffer.

Cheers, compared to PR, my head is perfectly still.. I won't worry about this one :-)

Glad to hear it. My 'problem' is what to do with my hands whilst running. I can never seem to find a comfortable way of holding them unless I'm holding the coiled dog lead in readiness to pop it over her head should we meet another dog that may be unfriendly... or if we see sheep - she tends to run away from them, and her having Collie in her too!!

Like you I've never been sure what to do with the arms. While on the IC last week, I watched a load of video clips on running style. Keeping the arms bent at right angles and not crossing the centre line of my body has helped me to relax the arms and shoulders

My arms are OK. As you say, 90-degree bend and pretty much straight back-and-forth. I don't tend to swing them across my body as it catches on branches, twigs and gorse on the moor. Ouch!

Youtube is good, but not necessarily accurate. I love watching Sarah Ridgeway running in Snowdonia, but her running style is very individual... she bounces on her toes. It works for her, but it would kill my calf muscles.

PS. A dog is a necessity!

These were useful on the forum. Hints, tips and exercises to move more naturally and economically.

I've been concentrating on the leg strengthening, warm ups, goose step, heel kicks and arms movements.

The videos have been invaluable :

Someone on here said imagine holding a crisp in each hand and not crushing it 😁 (or eat it )

That's just too difficult.. Love crisps

Sorry! Did you just say NOT eating crisps? Are you completely mad? They are far too yummy...

Keep your head still ? Have images of you being one of those nodding dogs that you have in cars 🤔😂

Nah lol. I've always taken long strides, and rocked slightly from side to side when I run. Having not run for years I'm now trying to improve my technique to minimise injuries.

Don't worry about it at this stage you are still learning and adjusting to running....

Like everything else it takes time and practise .. it may well sort itself in time.. carry on as you are 😁😁
