Trials and tribble-ations

Well, i managed to get out, but didn't get the result I wanted. But know what? A run is a run.

I started out with my warm up walk, Brandon singing to me that I'm the man, so, all good. I'd already decided that I was going to trial a new route, so I turned up towards where I wanted to go to, not realising how steep it was...

As some of you might be aware, I have a thing about hills. Long ones, short ones, steep ones, shallow ones. Hills of all sorts. I kinda like them. They're a challenge. Irish John mentioned that when ascending you should do so as if riding a tiny bike.

I think my tiny bike is in a corner crying for wd40 and an overhaul. Seriously, I rode it like it owed me money.

When I got to the end of this new and wonderous hill, I was to put it quite honestly, cream crackered. And I was only around 8 minutes into my run! I took the next section slowly, hoping to regain some energy, but if I'm going to be honest, I've not been firing on all cylinders since I got up due to a night full of horrific nightmares. But I keep with the downhill theme, winding my way past the co-op, across and abandoned playground, (oooh, dystopian future!) And wound my way down past my local and onto the trail that's my favourite part. And then enjoyed the walk home.

Thing is, I'd been having twinges from both knees since I finished the hill, and when my knees start to complain, I'm not one to disagree with them. I enjoy walking, running and generally getting about. You know, not being in agony. And after having had an arthroscopy on my left knee three years ago, I'm not in a rush to surf the injury couch for six months and have to go back to the beginning again.

So, a a walk home through the woods after a 2.8k run. Not the best I've ever done, but not the worst either and hopefully I'm off out on Sunday with the lad. I'll drop him off near home to walk back whilst I carry on for around 6k or so and he should have been able to get his mum to fix me a pint of pop and a banana for when I get back.

If I have to, I'll have some painkillers, some hot baths and break out the tennis balls this evening. Never mind. Onwards and upwards.

Epsom salts from the pet shop or equine store into a hot bath Soak. Not only does it help inflammation it also is good for cuts, scratches, blisters etc. Get a big sack of it. Steer clear of the chemists who sell it in tiny sachets 😁 You can get it from the allotment shop too as it’s used as a plant booster for magnesium deficiency. Cheap as chips

Got a big back in the kitchen, but I'll have a look at those places when I 'run' out lol! Thanks!

Excellent work sir! You did it and you got your hill fix (are you mad?!!)

Bet you feel righteous having done that! Brilliant! 👏👏👏👏

A bit disappointed really, I didn't get the distance I wanted but it wasn't completely unexpected. I enjoyed the hill though, and when reviewing it on Strava I spotted one I've driven up before and it's INSANE. (To the point I hate balancing my car on the clutch at the top as I worry I'll burn it out in time.) I can't wait to try it!

That will actually be a simple short 'up the hill and home' run though, more of a grind than a run. In time I'll incorporate them both into some longer runs though.

The main thing is you got out there - all I can say about your love of hills is wow! I’m a little envious!

One day I might start enjoying them I suppose. I have my first parkrun tomorrow which is fairly hilly in places. I’ll try to embrace them and see what happens. 😳🏃‍♀️😳

You could have taken the day off 😂 but you didn’t and you put a run in... shorter run and hills build speed, so you gained something. If you thought it sucked, try the SUCKcess guided run on Nike and coach will tell you all about “bad” runs.

I assume that's an app? I might just do that!

Yeah, Nike run club... it’s got guided runs for all eventualities, it’s great for picking you up.

You got out there!!! Well done! Sadly I didn’t hold up my end of the bargain 🙈 sorry!! It just wasn’t happening for me today. Don’t be disappointed. As you say, much better than not going! I’ll be out there tomorrow morning for my last run of w8 x
