First attempt at the Stamina podcast

I graduated a few weeks ago but still hadn't reached that beautiful 5km goal so downloaded the 5k+ podcasts and decided that my speed is the thing that is letting me down. The Stamina podcast is about 40 mins long and I knew that I'd need at least that to reach 5km. First day back from my holiday and having planned a 5km route so I knew where I'd have to run, I was up and out of the house by 7am. Wow, it really helped. I started jogging during Laura's warm up (having done my own warm up to my own music) and really kept to the beat of her music. When she said to stop and start the cool down I was 0.25 km off 5km so carried on. Then I realised that if I sped up a bit more I could complete it in under 42 mins. It worked! 5km in about 41mins 46 secs. So pleased. Never managed to shut those gremlins up as much as I did today. Totally marvelling how our bodies can change and achieve something that it really wasn't able to few months ago. I'll definitely be trying all of those 5k+ podcasts as I want to gradually chip away at that time. Happy running everyone.

Well done you! I haven’t tried the podcasts, just decided one day that it was 5k day and stubbornly refused to stop! Isn’t the feeling amazing?

Keep it up, sounds like you’ve found a method that suits you! Brilliant. 👏😀😀😀👏

I think you'll have to change your name!!!!

I tried the stamina podcast because I didn't want to run further, just faster but I found it physically impossible to strike the floor with my foot with every beat. In fact I was in serious danger of tripping over them!

I still feel like this is the way to go but think I need an intermediary step, faster than I'm doing now but achievable.

Up to now I have always run with no music, just the coach! I think it helps to have a beat to keep focused and not slow down.

Wondering if anyone else has had my experience and found a working solution.

Good luck with it.

Yes, when Laura said, "Let's speed up to 160 beats a min," I did let out a few swear words! As soon as it got a bit fast I found that I had to shorten my stride so think I looked a bit of a plonker. I got home and asked my kids for their metronome so I can compare the beats to the music on my own play list so I can listen to that rather than Laura when I fancy something different. I will try the other 5k+ podcasts too as I feel in the zone to improve and think it'll really help. I hate running without music as I can hear my breathing and I get quite alarmed with the volume of my heavy breathing!!! 😦 Good luck with your running.

I tried the stamina podcast this morning, I really struggled to keep in time with the beat, infact I gave up and went back to my trusty 'plod' ☹️ it was just so fast that I felt a bit foolish!

I'm glad you managed it SlowyMcSlowlegs! I will try it again..... eventually!

This sounds like a very good idea. I think I am in the same place as you were. Where can I find the podcasts that you refer to please?

If you Google C25K+ podcasts it will give you the link to the NHS live well site and you can download the podcasts there. I think they are also available on iTunes.
