Well, I did it! I was bit nervous, but it was nothing to worry out. I actually enjoyed it, surprised myself! and soo chuffed!
I debated whether or not to still listen to Jo Whiley, as I had done for solo jogs, for moral support, but then thought might not hear folk trying to get past me ! So no music or Jo..... just me plus 383 (384 attended according to website) others plus some dogs and buggies.
At about 8:50 there was a short briefing for newbies, both new to park run and new to that run, so that was informative and explained the course etc.... Then at 9 O'clock you are off, I started way at the back as I knew I was slow.
I just took it steady (a friend once said 'slow miles are better then no miles!). The route was well signposted, plus I know the park well and jog there sometimes anyway. The stewards and volunteers were great, and everyone was supportive. At the end you get a small bar code token which you take with you, plus your personal bar code, to a volunteer who then scans them both. Then later today I got an email with my time, you can also sign up to receive a text for your time result.
So my time was 37.30 and I'm happy with that, I thought I'd maybe be 45mins. But I'm just please regardless of time that I can actually do a park run. So if you are debating doing one.... my advice is just go for it and have fun!! and if you are not quite ready yet, don't worry.. one day you will be ! I'm already looking forward to the next one.
