My screen name here is "HillsEverywhere" for a reason.

I go to work by public transportation. Today it was by train, which means that when I hop off the train to get home, there's a rather long (1km) and very steep hill waiting for me.

Here I was, huffing and puffing in my nice work clothes and my nice work shoes and my heavy backpack, when I heard very soft footsteps behind me.

And lo and behold, I was overtaken by a Runner. A real one. A handsome young athlete entirely clad in black but with wonderful trainers that looked like a tropical sunset. He ran past me, quiet and light-footed. He wasn't bobbing up and down like I do but elegantly gliding over the asphalt.

And I thought : "I want to be that guy when I grow up."

Too bad I'm female 😝

Well, you can follow him on his runs one day! That’ll be speed training after week 9... see how long you can “appreciate the scenery”

I wish ! But I'm doubtful – I carry a few more years and quite a bit more... erm... "padding".

I had something similar when cycling to work a few years ago. There is an enormous hill just outside Guildford where I worked. I got overtaken a couple of times by a cyclist who flew past me. He was about half my age and on a bike about a tenth the weight of mine. I was determined for that to never, never happen again...

What did I do? Did I buy a lighter bike? Did I go on a strict training regime?

No, I left ten minutes later so that he'd be long gone by the time I got there. Hehe

I always think this when a runner goes past me. I always think that they don’t look knackered or red faced and they look like it’s easy for them but you never know there might be someone that thinks that when you go past. Although to follow him also sounds like a good plan 😏
