When another runner overtakes you...

you naturally speed up!! I was plodding on - at y 8:20 min/km pace, still a bit out of breath as I had been running only for a couple of minutes, when I heard steps behind me. Another runner, a very rare occasion at 10 am on a weekday. We said hello, and while he was overtaking he said "well done" and when he was probably 10 paces in front of me, "well done again, you're doing great!"

A quick peek at Garmin showed a 7 min pace... that's why I couldn't find the breath to thank him!!!

Whoever you are, mystery runner, thanks a lot for the kind words!

Oh yes, a pace maker :)

I always try a little bit harder to keep up for a while, but I soon run out of steam :) and they pull away into the distance :)

There was one last week though, he was going much quicker than me, and although I uped my pace, he was soon way off in the distance. However, a few minutes later I passed him, he was then walking. Then a bit later he passed me again running. I havnt yet plucked up the courrage to do run/walk myself since completing C25K. I cant loose the thought that it would feel like I was cheating! I know that is not the case, and that it's a good way of training. I must try it.

Hahahaa... :-) I think the technical term is 'egoleration' - the act of spontaneous acceleration on seeing another runner or someone you know. How lovely of him to give you those great words of encouragement too. I rarely get even a nod or wave.

And well done on that fabulous extra burst of speed! Just goes to prove that it's in you - you only need to push a bit every now and then. ;-)

How lovely Paola . It is so good to hear encouragement from other runners isn't it ?

I have had lots of " thumbs up " " Keep going ! " from others at races and once a lovely gentleman who is in his eighties ( ! ) passed me on his bike when I was going up a hill and shouted " Keep going sweetheart ! " Ha ha

It certainly warms your cockles doesn't it ? :-)

Get you with your 7 minute pace - Woo Hoo ! :-)

Lovely post, Well done ! :-) xxx
