I started Day one of Week 2 last night. I feel pretty good today and that I could do the 2nd day tonight. Should I or should I just stick to plan and leave it until tomorrow ?

Well done!!! I would heed the advice on here to “take your rest day”. The experts say that’s why the programme works so well as it’s tailored to incorporate them. I am a mere novice but followed the programme and from a scary scary wannabe jogger/snail am now officially a “runner” as I Graduated on Tuesday. Best of luck. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🦋

Always take your rest day.

Of course, "Rest" means a rest from running, not from activities. So tonight, go cycling, or swimming, or go for a long, brisk walk, or do some yoga, or stretching. Just don't do any impact activity. Let those muscle fibres in your leg muscles recover.

I was intending on a session on my spinning bike actually. Maybe I shall take a gentle spin.

Don't think of them as "rest" days. Think of them as "repair" days. They're when all those fibres and bits repair and align and get stronger. Anything that's low impact is fine within reason, but don't run on consecutive days for a long time...

Listen to MarkyD and pay attention to the bold italics :-)

Promise?

Don't want you get an over-training injury early in the programme....

Running on consecutive days greatly increases the risk of injury. They say it takes about a year of running regularly before you don’t need to always leave a day between runs. (Some day six months but that’s based on rather more rigorous training).

Thanks ArthurJG for that really helpful advice.

Fab you are feeling so good. I definitely recommend sticking to the very sensible advice to take a rest day between runs, especially at this early stage in your running journey. The rest days allows your body to repair and grow stronger.

Enjoy your rest day knowing you will be stronger for it!
