I was pretty scared of this one, i looked ahead of the schedule and it's been looming over me the last few weeks. This morning i got up early with excuses in my mind for why i couldn't do it... but i pushed myself out the door and nailed it... 20 minutes running, no walking, no stopping, just powered through and did it!

I feel so elated and proud of myself! I only managed 1.5 miles, which is around 2.5K so I'm a fair way off the 5k goal, but look how far I've come!

Thanks to everyone for the shoe lacing advice on my last post, it helped loads, though I'm going to relace even looser for my next run, roll on week 6!

Boom! One giant step up and you smashed it... 30 minute goal will soon be kicked into touch. 5k will come, don’t worry about it.

First time I've ever thought running 30 minutes might be possible!

There’s all of our problem at the start... it IS impossible! Now you see that it isn’t... and it will be simply “challenging” when you take it on. The journey on this plan is clear to me, it’s about 2 fitness levels, body and mind. Once it’s possible it’s just another step on the journey, if it remains impossible, it’s a brick wall across our path. Luckily I got a sledgehammer 😂

Now you’re at the stage where 8 to 20 was scary, and you beat it. 20 to 25 is a lot less daunting, 25 to 28 and 28 to 30 are pretty insignificant compared to what you just did. Your mind is ready, the legs are ready, and the heart is ready... it’s time for that Nike slogan 😀

Thank you! When Laura said it was a matter of mind rather than fitness i thought "well stubborn is something i can do!"

I agree that there's two hurdles to this challenge, and it feels great to overcome them both!

Stubbornness will take a person far in everything they do... well, until they get married that is 😂

Well done, I did it yesterday and I know how you feel :D

Brilliant! I know just how you feel; it's wonderful isn't it. Must look into the trainer lacing issue...

Yes do! I have mine laced loosely with a gap in the middle now as I've got high arches.

Congratulations, I did mine this morning too. It was something like my fourth attempt, but I got up early too and just went for it. Felt surprisingly good at the end too.

good to know I'm not the only one scared of this run, for me it should be on Sunday so I'll aim to do it first thing. Is your goal 5k or 30mins or to keep doing it and see what happens?

SleepyAsh profile image
SleepyAsh in reply toJalk

My goal is definitely the 30 minutes, then aim to do that 3 times a week and see if i can improve times up to 5k, I'm not pushing on speed at all, getting out there and doing it is the main thing!

agreed, if my run is slower/shorter than the previous, as it was today, I remind myself that doing it is the important thing.
