I have been regularly checking this forum to get an idea of what to expect before a run - especially before those runs that sound more ‘challenging’ than others. So I thought I’d share my W5R3 experience, hoping it might help someone, just like I’ve been helped up to this point.
I started my run in a positive frame of mind, not listening to the inner voice that would say: “No way you’re going to be able to run 20 minutes girl. Last time you did it was almost 30 years ago at school and you hated it so much. Look at you - you like to refer to yourself as curvy but your BMI says you are still obese. You have just about coped with the runs so far, what makes you think that you could step up to this one?” Oh shut up! I want to prove to myself I can do this.
I had chosen my music. This time, I picked an album I like instead of the usual shuffle - I didn’t want to lose my pace because of a bad choice made by an algorithm.
And then I just went for it. One step at a time, as slowly as I needed. After 5 minutes, I thought “no way I can last another 15 minutes without a stop”. After 10 minutes, I thought “ok - that’s already more than I’ve run before, but 10 more minutes? really?”. After 15 minutes, something very weird happened: at that point I started to feel ok and knew I was going to finish. And I did!!! Super slowly but I did it!!!
I am now ready for the next run in a couple of days. Bring it on!
