Attempted trail run 😆

Hi everyone

I am on week 8 and when I started couch to 5k I accidentally booked the wrong type of run to take part in! Since starting I have been running outdoor on tarmac on a primarily flat route. I booked a run as it was local to me and weeks out so thought it would help motivate...turns out it was a trail run through woodland, round a loch, with some parts that were so steep I had to walk!!! My pace was super slow but 8 weeks ago I wouldn’t have been able to jog at all never mind complete this. Couch to 5k really works! I’ve decided to aim to go back to this trail festival next year and Run the whole thing!!!

Well done Red, must have been a bit of a shock for the legs! You’ll know what to expect next time and smash it.

Yes it was really heavy rain and I didn’t wear a cap so I couldn’t really see out my glasses (embarrassing!). I got to the first steep hill and thought okay just walk fast! I love woodland walking but running on that kind of surface was totally different - I felt nervous of it. I like a flat ground with nothing to trip on 😆 but yeah fingers crossed this time next year maybe I would manage it properly!!

We often have to walk in runs. It’s quite acceptable. Everyone does it, especially in very steep bits where it makes sense to conserve energy 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️

Trail running is fab 🙂

Nah, you were very wise 👍.

Running the trails is great, and feels easier on the legs than relentless, flat tarmac 🙂

Nothing wrong with walking the steep bits, in fact an experienced runner who I know actually recommends this as you use much more energy trying to run up a steep hill than walking it. Good luck and keep going!
