After bottling this run on Tuesday morning, amazed is an understatement....
I can’t believe that I actually ran for 20 mins without having to walk or stop. Managed 3.7k at a steady 8:13 pace (not sure what pace I should be at for week 5) which I’m personally proud of having never run before!
Thanks for everyone’s support and encouragement, it really was mind over matter to do this run. I took it slow, chatted to my running buddy all the way, looked around, smiled and actually enjoyed it.

Well done. As others have said thee is no ‘should be’ pace. The focus is on being able to run for a certain length of time and you’re well on the way. To put it simply, you have to learn to run at all before you worry (if you choose to) about running fast. Once you graduate from the programme (doesn’t have to be 5k as long as it’s 30 minutes) then have three week’s consolidation - then is the time to think about whether you want to be faster, or cover longer distances, or just keep doing theee thirty minute runs per week. Too early for that yet. Just enjoy your achievement and keep going with the programme.
Also be careful not to take Week 6 too lightly. A lot of people expect runs 1 and 2 to be easy because of the walking breaks but they’re not. Don’t misunderstand me, they are within your capabilities as long as you expect a challenge but sometimes people get complacent after their 20 minute run and then it can go wrong. Take them as seriously as you have every other run and you’ll be OK.
Boom, nailed it, struggled at 15 mins so I told myself I’ll get to 18 at least, next thing the coach is saying 2 mins to go so I thought come on keep going, even sped up for the last 30 seconds. Well done us .
