How do you keep motivated? I only made it to week 4 before I lost interest.

Any help would be great.

You can be again.πŸ€”

Running can be the life’s blood of your soul.

Believe it and then change your user name.

I think your are allowed one change.

Today I have just moved into a new handicap range 75-79.

Bring it on.

Go for it, this running malarkey will change you and your life.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’₯πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’ƒ

Hi Tbae, I assume that by saying "that today I have just moved into a new handicap range 75-79" that today is your 75th birthday, I wish you a very happy birthday

Regards

Alan

Thanks Tbae, it is improving but I'm still taking it easy, I'll be back to running soon, but not just yet, also it did not help to have a nasty little corn just under my right toe, I treated that with Scholl Complete Corn Treatment Kit and it is completely better.

Find a reason that really matters to you. Promise yourself or someone else that you'll finish this even if you go no further than graduation.

If you don't usually finish things make this the one thing you do.

Dare yourself. Push yourself. Promise yourself a great reward at the end. Push whatever button you need to to keep moving forward rather than sitting back down.

Its a mental game. By dropping out you let the gremlins win. The self-doubting, lazy gremlins that don't want you to change. That don't want you to feel better about yourself because then you'll be in control, not them.

Sounds nuts. It is. But it's true too. πŸ‘πŸ˜‰

So true, I really want to do this but I have constant battles with my mind telling me to stop

Do it for yourself. Just you. Be selfish. Take time to achieve something you want. I find changing my playlist to a different album each time always keeps me going as I wait for favourite songs/sing along in my head. Maybe download some new music to try?? Promise yourself little rewards each week or couple of weeks. I always wanted to carryon because I was proud of each little increment because each day was challenging. What voice have you got on the app/podcast? I changed mine to Michael Johnson and it was more motivating - I nearly cried when he called me a runner πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Well..if you would like to be... Wanttobesexy instead of Usedtobesexy... you need to get out there..:)

Just pick up the shoes.. ( that is where the motivation hides)... if you lost interest.. did you lose the reason for starting?

Do you want to change? If so... just get out there:)

I simply didn’t want to die when the doctor said my blood pressure was at stroke levels. To hell with that. Hence l run and my blood pressure now is normal. The point is, why do you run? If you have certain goals that you wish to achieve through running then go, carry on running, if not - don’t run! Other cardio activities can be cycling or swimming, or none should you wish to do that instead. Ultimately, every choice, every decision, will be yours and yours only.

No swearing here, that should have been "can't be bothered", not the A word you used.

Stick to this forum as the support is fantastic. Do a ParkRun. They’re so motivating. Each week do one of your runs inside it and watch your times come down each week. Get sponsored. Enter a local 5k race πŸ‘ŒπŸ½

Difficult to answer your request. I guess we all find our own ways of motivating ourselves. Can get boring just going out with the podcast I agree. I used my own playlist and Michael Johnson was my coach (so cool!). Some people use audio books. You can do it, don't let the 'can't be arsed 'gremlins get the better. πŸ˜€πŸŒ»

You were probably trying too hard, going too fast, and not getting that satisfying plod-yet-exercising-OMG-I-am-cheating pace. Week 4 you don’t get into a rhythm much. Stick with it and the penny may drop. The hardest step is the first- just do 1 step - and then see how you feel?

Don’t let the gremlins win! The hardest part is getting out but after the feeling is mint!

Throw the couch out?

I'm not sure how I'm keeping going. I seem to be slightly addicted to it...? I think I might need someone to run with so might join a running club when I graduate.

Hope you manage just one more run. Then one more. And one more. Then perhaps another one...

I joined a running club...it's really good. Lovely friendly people, of all ages. Everyone supports each other. At Parkruns I'm always one of the last in, but always a club member will come back and encourage us slower ones in by running with us. Feels good. Certainly worth doing.

this forum plays a huge part in my motivation :) so keep coming here, reading about other people's runs, and do some yourself!

But also, motivation's a funny thing. You have to just do things... I know that sounds a bit rubbish. But I've suffered with lack of get-up-and-go forever and now I just try and ... do stuff. You can trick yourself by saying "I'll just get my running gear on and go for a walk" and then once you're out ...

Further to my earlier reply, I've had more thoughts and actually since doing C25K I feel fitter, stronger, healthier, and possibly younger and I'm 70. I laugh more, and enjoy life more. And there's been an extra bonus, I'm a dress size smaller! Your size might not be an issue, but if it is, then how's that for a motivator. Go for it, you can do it. It gets easier as you progress. There are good days when the runs feel great, and there are not so good days. Those ones you let go, and move on...after your day's rest. Enjoy it, it really is worth it πŸ™‚πŸŒ»

Im a sucker for a checklist

I feel ive accomplished something when i tick them boxes so every sunday i plan my week out

I write 3 goals i want to achieve - sometimes they’re go swimming once, meditate, listen to sleep app, do C25K etc etc they have to be realistic

I also plan my meals out so that i dont overbuy crap when i shop making it harder to snack on rubbish & i tick off as i go

The YMCA near me has a 12 week free physical activity course, theres a group/page on facebook that called your move that has dif pages for dif areas but they have activities to do too!

It works for me !

Stick at it & Good luck

Hi

I did this whilst off work with problems was really hard to even get up some days but I found sticking with this helped in lots of ways. I found jogging very painful on my knees at first but took it easy and now I can do 5k slowly and feel so much better in every way

Make yourself get out and do it and be proud every time

It’s not easy but life isn’t

Prove to yourself you can stick with something in your control and self belief will grow!
