When to move to outdoors?

Losingthecalories profile image

Hi everyone so far have been completing programme on a treadmill in gym. Now on week 5 run 2. Should I complete all program on treadmill before progressing outdoors? My first time of doing any running

There's no right or wrong with this one. I did the whole C25K program on the treadmill and carried on indoors for about 4 weeks before running outdoors for the 1st time in 20+ years. Just concentrate on completing the program and then see how you feel :-)

Good luck!

John

I have done my programme outside. I prefer ‘real’ weather (I don’t believe I have just said that) and I am easily bored and like to have a noisy around my area to see what’s happening. Never used a treadmill but did briefly join a gym and got scared off by all those incredibly fit people. I like my ‘invisible’ jogging around the streets

Hi. I do both and it works for well for me to mix it up between indoors and outdoors depending on what my week looks like ( and also the weather). Important thing is finding what works well for you.

Good luck and safe happy running 🏃🏼‍♀️ day. Week 5 is a fabulous week.

Thanks Wimborne I completed Wk5 r2 today and it didn’t feel too bad at all but still not brave enough to try outdoors

Some people have lower boredom thresholds than others. . ............. I could not have done 9 weeks of running on a dreadmill, but if it suits you, fine, stick with whatever works.

Have you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it is full of tips.

Hi...I do both. I find outside harder than the treadmill. Also the weather and time of day also dictates what i go for. I like listening to my music whilst running so will only do that on a treadmill, don't like to not be fully aware of what's going on around me when I run outside. Like the others, it's what suits you....a run is a run. Good luck!

Happiness is running outside! It is also rather less sweaty but some find it harder. It is, however, much more interesting and you’ll adapt quickly.

I started the program on a treadmill in the summer but just couldn’t get going! Found pacing really hard and got really pain shin pain! Weirdly I started the programme again when I cancelled the gym and have been running outside! Happiness is running outside. It’s so nice to see the world go by and pace yourself easily. I will never go back to a treadmill! 😃 give it a go!
