WEEK 5

I’ve just completed week 5 run 1 and I hadn’t realised that your run changed every time this week. I’m a little bit scared for my next run, not sure if I’m ready to run that long yet. Any tips???

Same! I’m to do Run 2 on Friday and am a bit :/ about it!

Having said that... I’ve been nervous about every jump up in amount of time run and have always managed it. I’m just trusting that Ct5K know what they’re doing and it’ll be all fine! :/ right?!

Me too actually, always get nervous before the start of a new week. We should probably trust the app more, it’s been right up until now. Let’s just believe in ourselves and if we don’t manage it that’s fine as long as we try again!💟

Absolutley!

There’s no way that I would have believed 5 weeks ago I could run what I can now! Fingers crossed from me on Friday - when you doing yours!?

Good luck to both of you! I'm planning on doing run 2 on Saturday - can't wait to hear about your success and be spurred on!

I'm on w4r2 now and was looking ahead at week 5 😮. A 20 minute run at the end seems like a bit of a jump. I'll be honest, I'm a little scared. Let me know how you get on.

Don’t fear it. Your journey will be full of times you surprise yourself. Look back at your achievements so far, amazing. 20 minutes is tough, you are tougher.

Me too, I'm absolutely bricking it, especially run 3! I can't imagine how I'm going to run for 20 minutes, but I never thought I'd run for five, so it shows how wrong you can be. Let's stay positive and stick together. We CAN do it!!! 😋

Damn right you guys can do it... when the next run is a big jump, find yourself a little treat for when you finish it. Focus on doing what you’ve been training to do. After that jump in length of run ALL of the others are smaller. This is the point where you can show yourself just how good you are. Use all three tools you’ve been developing, two legs and a strong mind.

Yasss we CAN do it! We’ve came sooo far.💟

Trust the plan... relax... look at what you’ve done before... some of those runs may have been tough... but you did it. Look at the run you just did... could you have done that 5 weeks ago? You’re getting stronger with each run, you are getting more endurance with each step. The cool thing is your body repairs and strengthens during the rest, and you start each run not knowing just how much you have in that tank. Don’t worry about the run, it’s there to challenge the new you. Remember your legs and feet only hurt because you’ve been kicking so much ass. You can do this, you’re a runner.

I did w5r2 this morning and it's not a step too far. Trust the app, take the advice (go slow, lots of hydration etc.). Smash it into touch. You can do it if I can.

Thousands of people have done it before. Many of them posted messages just like yours beforehand - and two days later were back saying year I did it!

Two pieces of information that may help you. First, you’ve just run for 15 minutes with two short breaks. Run 2 is 16 minutes with one, longer break. If you think about the total effort rather than the length if each individual run, you’ll realise there is a step up but it’s not as big as you thought. You’re ready because you’ve followed the programme correctly.

Secondly, be aware that the nature of the challenge is changing as you progress. The biggest barrier becomes less physical and more mental. You will likely find your brain coming up with all kinds of reasons to stop when physically you don’t actually need to. If you know that you can be ready for it.

I’ve just finished all week 5 runs, I deliberately didn’t read on here what was coming up or look it up so i haven’t known what is coming up in any of the runs in any weeks. I quite liked that I’d already set off from home before I knew what I’d face, so kind of meant I’d have to do it. This helped me with my head demons trying to talk me out of it or weaken my resolve. I really have not struggled with week 5 and I’m gobsmacked as there is step change. But if a very over weight unfit person like me can do it I’d say everyone on here can. I was slower in wk5 run 3 that’s run 2, but I didn’t at any point feel I could finish run 3. The first half of my run is up a slight slope, so it really helps that it’s more downward in the second half too. I’ve no idea what week 6/7/8/9 format is, it’s quite intriguing
