Week 5!!!!

So I’m about to start week 5 today!! It was so hot last week I decided to repeat week 4 as I knew I’d struggle to run in the heat. Although I’m feeling good and ready to get out there, this is the week that really starts to up the running length, and the 20 minute run is scaring the bejeebers out of me!! 😱 The 5 min runs are currently pushing me and I’m trying not to let it get into my head, but does anyone have any tips on getting through the 8 minute runs and then the terrifying 20??!!

Also just want to say, this forum is so brilliant! Everyone is so helpful and kind and I’m grateful we are all here to support one another!! 💪🏻

I think maybe most of us have looked ahead to the 20 minute run with apprehension; but we are all prepared for it by the program. Trust it; the barrier is psychological. Slow your running right down to a very light jog, so that you could have a conversation without panting and gasping. I often talk to myself when running, so that’s easy to measure. I wouldn’t be surprised If I was among the slowest on this program. I don’t care! I’m getting through the weeks and just finished the 25 minute run at the end of week 6. Play your favourite music as well, that helps me a lot. Good luck!

Aaah thanks for that positive message! I agree playing great music really helps and I’m trying to get my pace to a nice gentle jog so I don’t get too tired. I’m excited by the challenge this week brings and need to stop my brain from telling me that I can’t do it!! Thanks so much 😊

Jools is exactly right -we all look at that 20 min run and think, really?! But the programme works! Every run prepares you for the next.

Take it easy, nice and slow so you’re not out of breath. Stick on a great playlist/podcast/ audiobook and you’re away! Good luck!
