Still running... quiet slow progress.

That is quiet not quite.. being in the consolidation period is a bit like standing in no mans land ( or running in it ) lots of people who started 5k have moved way onto 10, some have also gone v quiet 🤫 this is weird you have no real goals other than fitting it into yr life on a regular basis. Kind of hard sometimes as I started running under a punishing work regime as a relaxation and now am on holiday and relaxed so will need to get back into another new routine when term starts again in mid August. Still, I’ll be stronger and fitter for the term ahead I know. Not quite got the courage up for the Burnley Park Run? It has HILLS in it waaaah! 🤦🏼‍♀️Good luck everyone running this weekend 👌🏻👋🏻⛅️✅

There’s usually another flatter parkrun nearby!

There’s other plans out there if you don’t want to go to 10k. There’s a 5k+ on here and the training apps aren’t just about preparing for a certain distance. Somewhere out there is a routine for you.

Agreed, I think I just need to carry on developing through the 5k+ and thoroughly embed the habit of running through the year 😊

Sounds like a good plan. Scheduling it will help.

Now, where do I have to move to in order to have the new term start mid August? My little one is doing my head in on days she’s not running!

Remember it well!! Enjoy while you can she’ll be 22 and off on her own before you know it. I work in a college which has longer terms shorter hols 😢

I’ll come to you when she’s ready for college then 😂😂😂

With a bit of luck I’ll be retired then!! 😂😂😂

Totally agree about the "no mans land" feeling of the immediate PG period, that's exactly what it felt like to me too. Everyone's different, so you have to choose what's right for you personally, but if it helps at all...

...for me, I absolutely loved (and still do) the freedom to just run for the fun of it, without any set target like there was during C25k. But (and it's a big but!)... with no headline target to aim for there was a real danger my mojo would pack up and move on, so I more or less went straight into the 10k programme after graduating... and am now thinking about a HM, to make sure there is always some sort of target I am working towards. Thats what worked/is working for me so far.

Ultras in a couple of years? 😂

I’m looking at a marathon at some point, then dropping straight back to 5k, which will be a strange journey to make.

Great to hear you’re loving it.

Thanks for that, I do have issues with motivation and setting interim goals will help I think. Embedding the habit is my main challenge and perhaps some fun running could make it more pleasurable in meantime before ready to move on. I would like to work up to a 10k and do that with my daughter who did her first HM this year. 😊

On the C25K forum, Fabulous450 has just posted about her latest run - and she just ran and loved it. She has decided that this is what she enjoys doing and wants to continue to do - no training plans or so on for now. Take a look, it might inspire :) Even if not aiming at something, the ‘me’ time and finding a comfortable pace and mental Headspace is wonderful enough.

Personally, I work best with goals - although I don’t let them rule my life to the point of destruction like I used to. But I am determine to enjoy the process as much as I can, so I won’t always feel I need an ‘excuse’ to get out there. In that respect the runners like yourself are way ahead of me 😁

I’ll look at that thanks! I think I’m conscious of needing to get through a whole year, winter could bring new challenges, I still run mainly inside so want to just keep going transition outside and feel stronger, all the advice is great 👍🏻

If find this forum is really inspiring and motivating. I’m looking forward to discussions about coping with dark evenings and winter clothing; about which I am completely ignorant at the moment 🤣

Hey, I'm with you. Consolidation for at least 3 months, maybe a year - 5K max. I have to overcome 50 years of training my glutes to be supportive :-) I'm finding it hard to run during the week, but he Parkrun on Saturday is my high point.

Do the Parkrun, walk up the hills if necessary.
