Had been going ok, learnt to slow down to get through runs but had been all on treadmill. Had seen all great comments about outside plus we got two new kittens who are in the room with the treadmill and hiding under so decided to give outside a go.
Tried to go as slow as possible and seemed ok albeit felt very different on my legs. Then at around 16 mins was getting slower and slower and ended up walking for a few mins then jogged the last 5 minutes when Laura said 5 to go....
So it outside harder, did I just let mind wander and whimp out???

Hi JJB001 first of all, you didn't fail, you took a big step forward by running outside, you only fail by not trying. Did you measure your run at all, the biggest challenge I faced (still do) is running at a consistent pace, if you haven't already and you can download an app like Strava, Runkeeper or Map my walk, it will give you lots of infirmation about pace, elevation gain etc. So dont think of this as failure, just not a total success, keep it up, you are doing great
Thanks Berksrover I did measure using runkeeper but not sure it was accurate it said 1st k was 8.20 and that was including 5 minute walk (albeit downhill as I walked to where Flat ish for run) 2nd said 7.5km which might be about right as last run treadmill w7r1 was all done at 7.2km 3rd said 6.3km but including my walking for at least part of it...
So bar 1st k which seems wrong not crazy. But agree not consistent
I know exactly what you mean. I completed C25K on a treadmill and then decided to go out, total faliure! It is so so different, and my hayfever didn't help.
I have decided to try again on about week 3 and work my way back through the program, but still do 2-3 runs on the treadmill (at 30mins). I just feel I need to conquer outside if my hayfever will let me!! Lol
Good luck with it.....are you going out again or explaining the situation to the kittens?! 😂
Awww don't beat yourself up! Treadmill and outdoor running do feel very different, because outside you are tackling wind, weather, changes in terrain, kerbs, roads, allsorts of other stuff you don't get on a flat belt churning round. One of the reasons I never thought I could run was because I'd tried it outside several times and although I could manage about half an hour on a treadmill at the peak of my pre C25K days, running outside never worked for me, managing only a few minutes at best before collapsing!
But, in 2015 and 45 years old I completed the programme, am still running and would recommend that if you want to continue past graduation that you do consider graduating on the tread for your own sense of satisfaction then starting again outside from a point that you feel ok with. The reason being is not that I'm saying treadmill running doesn't count, because it does. It's more because in the future, the distances and places you can go will not be limited by the constraints of a treadmill and your sense of freedom will give you added motivation and you know that you can do it.
At the end of the day you DID NOT FAIL! You went out there and you ran ... and you will continue so here's looking forward to seeing your gradation post
I have been running outside all the way but did w7 r2 yesterday and found it harder also. I think it's partly because you have to get used to doing longer runs all the time and this was the third 25 min in a row. Also I went out later than normal and it was much hotter. You may find after an extra rest day you would complete it outside.
Many thanks EL, next run due Tuesday so plan on giving it another then. Legs aching more than before today so maybe was just the build up you mentioned.
